Weird that we'd send our two starting halves and then a bunch of reggies, especially when we lost them both at the start of last season.

I beg to differ.
9s is a completely different game to normal league. It requires a different type of athleticism and playing style. For the first 3 years teams have been learning on the go. Sometimes the big name players in the nrl don't translate well to 9s, sometimes younger more atheltic players, who can recover more quickly in the short turn around for games thrive in the environment. I think the teams named so far are more in line with dedicated 9s style players to win it then 'let the stars have some fun throwing the ball around' we tried to aim for in the first few years.

Don't worry Vic, I've found out on NRL site.

Not good news.

Apparently Moses will probably play for the All Stars.

oh i agree with what youre saying. the year the cowboys won was probably the weakest squad theyve sent from a regualr first grader point of view. saying moreso from a star pulling power perspective.

i look at the squads and most would have 6-8 of their regaular 17 playing.

well he was picked as starting 5/8 so i would assume he is.

Its a good time to look forward to it. No more cricket, tests, ODI's and Big Bash are finished, bring on the footy. As a kid growing up watching league the World Sevens was exciting to watch and was a great way to start the season. The weather was still hot, early February and there was plenty of entertainment on the field. I was obviously excited about watching my team, but also exciting watching the likes of Fiji, USA, Samoa, Tonga, PNG, Russia, Japan.

Now with the 9s in the 4th year, every League fan is looking forward to it. Ok some of the squads aren't very strong and wont have the best known players, but the thing I'm looking forward to is seeing some of the young talent coming through the ranks and the 9s tournament is always good to see them play a different brand of football. Fast, exciting, free flowing.

They maybe no-names for now, but whats to say they'll be talked about more after the tournament. No-one knew who Bevan French was or Agnatius Paasi before the tournament last year.

I hate it how its gets criticised and coaches, CEOS have excuses as they're likely to get injured in the tournament. Well injuries happen at training, trials, Round 1, Origin, Semis.

But I just hope it doesn't die off like the Sevens did when coaches stopped using big name players.

Eddie.

The Nines is good to watch players playing without the shackles of game plans and structures and block plays and channels. The NRL can really suck the life out of some players skills sets.

I think it has a place in the Rugby League Calander although i can totally understand teams not risking their best players.

All the QLD sides look very strong. Warriros maybe not as strong as previous years.

For those interested I have done an 11 minute podcast below previewing all 4 pools and who I think will advance.

Also identified some key players in each team.

Might help you back a winner!
