Coote is half the player Ponga is.

Compare the organisation of the Cowboys defensive line (and even the attack) tonight compared to every game where Ponga has played fullback. Cowboys are lost without Coote guiding them around.

Ponga is good for highlights, there's more to playing fullback than that. He'll learn those skills, he's a smart kid, but he doesn't have them yet, especially the defensive side.

Coote is also a much better play kicker, which is important when the halves are Thompson and Morgan.

Looks as though many people have memories of Des as a coach at Manly when he had a decent side, now he has a team without a 6, 7 and 9 plus a couple of extremely unfit forwatds and a few backs who should be in reserve grade.
