Bureta Faraimo signed for the rest of the season

Wellington-born outside back Bureta Faraimo will join the Vodafone Warriors from the Parramatta Eels this week after being signed as injury cover for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old, who can play both centre or wing, has starred for Wentworthville in the Intrust Super Premiership this year and leads the competition with 14 tries.

Faraimo made 15 appearances for the Eels in 2015 and, through his American Samoan descent, represented America at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

“We’ve signed Bureta on a short-term deal,” Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Tony Iro said.

“At this stage, he’s planning on heading to the UK next year so he’s only on our books until the end of the season.

“He wanted to come home and we feel he gives us some really good cover in our outside backs if we need it.”

Manu Vatuvei. granted early release.

Long-serving Vodafone Warriors winger Manu Vatuvei has been released from his contract and will link up with Salford in the English Super League.

The iconic try-scorer was originally contracted until the end of the 2018 NRL season but asked the Vodafone Warriors for an early release in order to join Salford and experience playing in Europe.

A fan favourite at Mt Smart Stadium for well over a decade, Vatuvei has been restricted to just one NRL appearance in 2017 due to a number of injuries.

“Manu is a club legend,” Vodafone Warriors managing director Jim Doyle said.

“We didn’t make this decision lightly but after years of fantastic service to the Vodafone Warriors, he’s decided the time is right to head overseas and we didn’t want to stand in his way.

“We wish him all the best for his future and while he will soon be lining up for Salford, he’ll always be a Vodafone Warrior in our eyes.”

After making his first-grade debut in 2004, Vatuvei, Vodafone Warrior #115, went on to make 226 appearances for the club.

“The Beast” quickly became a potent attacking threat on the Vodafone Warriors’ left wing and in 2015 became the first player in NRL history to complete the feat of scoring 10 tries or more in 10 consecutive seasons.

That same year, he became just the third player to appear in 200 games for the Vodafone Warriors.

Vatuvei also leaves New Zealand’s shores as the Vodafone Warriors’ all-time leading try-scorer with 152 tries. Stacey Jones is second on the list with 77.

“This wasn’t an easy decision to make,” Vatuvei said.

“I’ve absolutely loved my time here at the Vodafone Warriors playing alongside my brothers.

“I will never forget this club and just want to say a massive thank you to the club and the fans for their support over the years.”

Vodafone Warriors fans will get the opportunity to farewell Vatuvei in style at this Friday’s game against the Penrith Panthers in Auckland where the giant winger will be honoured before he departs for the United Kingdom.

“While Manu won’t play against the Panthers, our fans will understandably want a chance to give him a fitting send off,” Doyle said.

“They’ll get that opportunity this week and we are encouraging as many as possible to come on Friday to show Manu just how much he means to them.”

Now that it's official I just want to say is Manu is a club legend, it wouldn't of been right him playing for any other NRL club. Try scoring record for the club that won't be beaten for a long time, more than ten tries in ten consecutive seasons is phenomenal. Thank you Manu for your service and all your tries, you always gave your all for the club.

Lawrence is probably the only one who is a realistic chance while still not being bog average like Williams and Pettybourne.

Meehan is a different category. Young, talented, but troubled.

Great to see the Warriors are looking to recruit a young 17 year old sought after kiwi from Christchurch in Patrick Elia. Apparently Aussie clubs are looking down south for new talent. As I said before, this is what the Warriors need to do more of, is look at young union players because lets face it, when you have a reputation as 'the cemetery for players' you aint going to get any good Aussie players coming here trying their heart out to win it for us. Unless of course their misses stays in Auckland which is the case for Warrior hopeful - Folau. Its very hard to see any club killing Folaus career though, I rate him so highly that I think he could continue to play well even if were getting thrashed.

I don't know. I think we should just ignore all superstar signings and just get a f**ken team together. A unified one at that. Players that are up and coming or under-valued. Moneyball this shit club. No more preseason hype with superstars. I want hungry players with no egos. Take Hasler too piss off Mr Ya Know
