Lots of 2018 discussion becoming lost in the back end of the two threads for 2017, so lets start fresh.

First up - NSWRL confirmed ISP kicks off 10 March, I assume the other three comps kick off the same weekend.

Dunno if these were posted elsewhere already. Some Souths/Norths player movements.

    Brad Deitz > Wenty Magpies
    Brett Greinke > Wests Tigers
    Jack Gosiewski > Manly

Little to no communication regarding anything except an expected draw release of mid-November. Hopefully when clubs etc are known, the leagues will take shape and can start some buzz for them.

    "
Panthers is delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Harden as Jersey Flegg Head Coach for the upcoming season.

With the National Youth Competition making way for the state-based Jersey Flegg under-20s competition in 2018, Harden will perform the role in conjunction with his ongoing duties as Academy Head Coach.

A local junior whose burgeoning playing career with Panthers was cut short by injury, Harden has progressed through the club's coaching ranks since commencing as SG Ball Assistant Coach in 2013.

The 31-year-old was Head Coach of the Panthers SG Ball side which claimed the premiership and national title in 2016.

"I'm extremely excited to reunite with so many players that I have worked with coming through the younger grades," Harden said.

"At a development club like Panthers, we have the privilege of working with talented juniors who can look to the first grade squad and know that level of footy is well within reach.

"It's a constant source of inspiration in everything we do."

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Harden says it is important his squad adopts a 'team first' mentality.

"We need to get that selfless attitude right and set about building not just good footy players, but quality young men," he said.

The Panthers Jersey Flegg squad commences pre-season training on Monday afternoon."

Confirms the return of Jersey Flegg.

Zammit was still coach at the end of the season but Achmar took over for a few games when Zammit was suspended.

"The Bird" has gone through more assistant/co coaches, merged clubs and pathways than Benny has had back doors. He'll get there...just might take a few more of those to do so!

Will be interesting to see the effect that Parra having an U23s comp will have and what the quality will be like.
Cabra seem to be favouring that over an A grade side

In the late 80's Canterbury ran a very strong u/23 comp. Being the only district with such a grading they attracted a lot of players from other district's Presidents Cup teams that were not graded. The standard fell away quickly when a lot those players shifted to the Metro Cup when it commenced in 1989.

With the advent of the Sydney Shield, the Parramatta A grade is now very weak so an u/23 comp may stand a chance of attracting some decent teams.

U23s ysed to be a general very strong comp

Why did they stop it in the first place ?

    The old seniors U23 with U21 / U19 / U17 / U15 juniors was a very strong development pathway

Uep u23’s should be a good standard, some of the players that miss out on u20’s flegg teams might play u23’s.
