The 19-man Glebe squad contains 11 Newtown players. Pretty strong line-up. Belrose will be bolstered by at leaat 3 or 4 Dirty Reds players.

Yeah Glebe Burwood have a good side and there are some others that were in the preseason that are in neither Newtown or GB eg Malakai Houma, Lachlan Stein, Addison Demetriou, Matt Jurd, Jamie Mathiou, Louis Meehan, Joe Dokinavalu and Jordan Bowles.

The Asquith SS team looks OK with players like Alex Nicholls O'Neill, Enoka Time, Jeremy Marshall, Niko Apelu, Mike Filimona, Vinny Ngaro and Riley Travers.

Could be a long season for brothers. I watched both shield n massey tonight. The scores flatter brothers in both games

Are Brothers aligned with Penrith at all? Might be expecting to get the excess players from the 20s or Cup.
If St Mary’s don’t have that partnership anymore.

Hills lost to Brothers during the Challenge Cup but today have caused a boilover by beating Wenty 24-22 after they trailed 16-0 at half time. Wenty fielded a much stronger side than the one named during the week with Magnus Stromquist, James Gammidge, Zac Nicholls and Kurt DeLuis added to the side.

In the other RMC game today Glebe Burwood beat Blacktown 26-12 after Blacktown skipped away to an 8-0 lead after 25 minutes. Lattrell Robinson dropped out of the Glebe side and initially it appeared that Jo Dokinavalu would play but in the end Lebanon World Cup backrower, Ahmed Ellaz came into the side and Adrian Haangana was given a spot in the Belrose SS team. Blacktown prop, Hutch Maiava appears to have followed his usual procedure of avoiding trials and then taking his place when the comp starts.

In the SS:

Belrose 24 Blacktown 16
Wenty 44 Hills 10
St Marys 34 Moorebank 10

Solid performance from Glebe-Burwood given they were on the end of an 8-1 penalty count in the first half and had a completion rate of 1/7 early on. Completely dominated the last 50 minutes. Charlton Schaafhausen was the standout with Latrell Schaumkel not far behind. The big men laid a solid platform and the halves (Jesse Marschke and Peni Manumalealii) were increasingly hard to contain. All in all a good start going into the second round bye.

Jeff Robson was missing from the Dapto team that lost to Guildford on Saturday and was replaced by new signing Harry Siejka.

Regardless, that doesn't look good for Brothers.

They looked completely out of their depth against a very well drilled Cabra side on Saturday night. Cabra just too big and too strong up the middle especially, making 70 odd meters on most sets. Score not a reflection of their dominance.

Glebe were very good especially after defending on their own line for the first 25 odd mins and Blacktown were lucky to score the two tries out wide.

Wests were lucky to get a draw against Asquith. A questionable penalty goal late drew them level as well as scoring 4 tries to Asquiths 5. Asquith looked very slick and well drilled in attack in patches scoring some well worked tries but also made a lot of errors.

Asquiths shield team looked very good in what was a competitive game and could have gone either way. I expected Asquiths Shield team to struggle as they have always been poor when the club has had a Ron Massey Cup above but they seem to have built a good squad this year.

If Newtown do not get injuries then Glebe could be the dark horse this season as they looked very strong.

Does anyone know of William Butler at hills ? Heard he played in the polecats team last year , very average comp .. thinking hills are of a poor standard this year without stars like Feleti and lestrange.

Watched a few games last year and can honestly say he’s fragile in defence
