I wouldn't be surprised if st helens lose Ben barba..his instagram posts are quite telling...a week or two ago he's at pre season in the ice and snow now he's down under in the lovely warm sunshine...probably catching "homesickness" as we speak lol

Seriously though, just read up on it on TRL..apparently he's not played enough 1st team games over the last 2 years to qualify for a visa...

The requirements are you play 75% of games and he's played 73-74%...quite harsh really.

So why did he have to play 75% of games? What's the rule here?
Hard to understand why the government would care about the amount of rugby league games played rather than simply holding stable employment and having another job lined up

The rule is that people immigrating to the UK need to have a visa and a work permit to come here. Just like every other country in the world. For sportsmen visas are issued by the home office based on criteria which are predetermined by the governing body of the sport, in RL's case it's a certain percentage of first grade appearances or a certain number of international caps within a set period. Minga didn't meet the criteria so he doesn't get a visa.

This is also why you usually see a load of Fijian/PNG guys move to England after every World Cup, it's the only time they play enough international matches for the players to qualify for a visa.

Funny thing is that if minga played for png at the world cup instead of faffing about trying to play for France then he'd have got his visa lol

Rules are rules, and they are there for good reason. No problem with them abiding by their own guidelines

The rule is there to stop England RL clubs filling their squads with even crapper overseas players than they do now! Oh and the Govt requires that someone coming into the country to work isn't taking a job of someone in the country who could do it equally as well, the % is there to show they are of higher quality than may be available locally.
