Lee was waquar-like

In a game where no one was swinging it on a flat track Binga was bending it like Beckham.....unbelievable spell and very unlucky not to get more wickets.

150k balls swinging late......very nasty.

Duncan Fletcher's comments appear to confirm Borat's belief

"One bad session can cost you the match. I've got to speak to the batters and ask why they closed up ... the instructions were to have a go like we did yesterday. We included Giles because we wanted to bat to No. 8 ... we think Ashley can do a better job at that."

Sounds like Giles has had it.
bout bloody time

If Lee can get that reverse a bit later he will be up there with Waquar.
That there is one reason to keep Lee, reverse swingers at that pace are hard to find.

Hell yeah...nigh on impossible to play.....the ball starts out swinging away from the right handers, luring them out,and then darts back in for the pad/wickets.

Very nasty at high speeds.

Waqar is an all-time great - Lee would have to undertake the most miraculous reinvention ever to the considered "up there with Waqar" - not even close, never, impossible...

Shutting up shop like they did, and Collingwood was the main culprit has he had the majority of the strike, destined them for failure. Maiden after maiden was bowled without any intent to score any runs. If he had of scored say 40 or 50 off his 119 balls instead of 22 England would have been out of reach. Just staying in was never going to save the game.

but tyring to score runs would have gotten him dismissed in that pressure cooker... they should have either played naturally from the outset or played for a draw. They played for a draw, and if all of them did that they would have stayed in until after tea, and maybe given australia a chase of 160 off 20 overs? that would have been enough to save or possible win the game. Collingwood did what he was asked to do and what was required of him... if Flintoff, Jones, Pieterson and Bell werent that stupid... then this would have indeed been a different story.

Read the quote again. Fletcher asked them to have a go, and Collingwood did the opposite.

well even then mate, when all your left with is the tail... you gotta survive... not just throw the bat

Survive for what purpose? To make himself look good thats all. He condemned England to lose by not making any attempt to score runs. It was blatently obvious once Flintoff was out that Australia would have a target to chase and it was up to the batsmen left to set that total. Collingwood instead decidied to show how well he can leave balls to the keeper. No one is saying he should have taken unnecessary risks, just take the shots when they are there.

he thought at the very least he'd decrease the number of overs available, once flintoff and the rest had gotten out, also when you are hardpressed defending your wicket with all others falling around you, first priority would be suriving - NOT scoring runs. He DID take the runs on offer, i remember 2 full tosses of warne which he took to the boundary... taking unneccesary risks and thinking of himself would have entailed him charging warne ALA strauss, getting out and leaving englad with NO chance... atleast with Colly's inns Eng had a chance... too bad only flintoff and hoggard can bowl
