Well if we had Handscomb or Smarsh at 6, there are two blokes who have shown fight. Khawaja at 3 or 4 is still a better batsman than Mitch Marsh regardless of his perceived issues against spin

Almost doesn't matter who it is. "Batsman" are equipped to deal with pressure, find a way to stay in and grind out a gutsy 25 off 70 on a tough pitch. That's what a "batsman" does.

Nevill had that in him. Pick pretty much anyone else who "bats" in shield cricket who average 40ish and they would have had a chance. Be it Khawaja or anyone else. Hell..Cowan, Klinger, Ferguson, Head etc...all look pretty f**king good right now.

Mmarsh is nothing more than a slogger ..and was averaging 6 in the shield season and was picked cause he could "bowl." He's bowled 10 overs in the series at about 125ks. Ridiculous selection.

And Wade..well....lol

Big turning point was when India had to start their 2nd innings ten overs or so before the break and we bowled with no discipline and built no pressure. They got off to a flyer and were able to relax

Kohli is rightfully bullying a bunch of pretenders in our side. He knows numpties like Wade can do nothing but gob off.

Australia have still done infinitely better than anyone expected. Won the first and gave them a huge fright in the second. Everyone was tipping a 4-0 hammering.

Give some credit where it's due.

Another batsman and maybe we're a chance. Warner and Smarsh use better judgement and maybe we're a chance.

We need to learn from the way Rahane and Pujara played...we cannot play a dominating brand of cricket on these wickets. You milk singles and twos, you rotate the strike, you work hard for runs and you punish the bad balls when they come. Build partnerships and you'll win, realistically all we needed was one partnership at the top of the innings somewhere and it becomes a very different game.

That said India bowled well as expected at home. Hopefully we win the toss next game, it's so important in India...moreso in that you definitely don't want to be batting last against India

f**king awful capitulation. I know a performance like this was expected but I'm still angry.

Sack the lot of them, that was pathetic.

That is proof positive that Sheffield Shield form has not been used as a barometer for test match selection for a LONG LONG TIME.

Lost it last night when starc bowled poorly and lyon reverted back to type. Our batting today was like a bunch of blokes who didn't think they could win.

MMarsh has to go end of discussion.

Kohli is indeed a merkin.

I can only conclude that he must have watched a lot of Steve Waugh's 'Untouchables' and Punter's 'Merkinators' growing up.

Must have learnt such bad sportsmanship from somewhere!

This must be the greatest day in NZ cricket history going on this thread.

Always living vicariously through other nations.

they openly admitted that MMarsh was picked on his Sri Lankan form, he had no shield form leading up to this series

just shows not only how clueless our selectors are but their methodology is also very poor

Ravi Shastri has always been a joke of a commentator. Him and Gavaskar are BCCI yes-men. I was very disappointed he didn't get the Indian coaching role, so he would continue to stay away from polluting the airwaves.
