In-form Canberra Raiders winger Jordan Rapana heads five uncapped players named in new Kiwis coach David Kidwell's 24-strong squad on Tuesday.
Rapana, who scored 23 tries for the Raiders this season, is joined by teammate Joseph Tapine, Warriors pair David Fusitu'a and Solomone Kata, and young Penrith Panthers playmaker Te Maire Martin.
Kidwell has retained Melbourne Storm prop Jesse Bromwich as his captain, continuing the role he filled against Australia at Newcastle in May.
Long-serving skipper Simon Mannering is also in the group.
Bromwich, 27, led from the front as his Melbourne outfit fell inches short of a premiership victory in 2016, making 27 appearances and running almost four kilometres with the ball.
Choosing to keep Bromwich as captain after leading the Test side in May's Anzac Day clash with Australia, new Kiwis boss David Kidwell said Mannering would remain an important cog in his side for the Test in Perth on October 15 and the following Four Nations tournament.
"He (Mannering) was really happy to keep Jesse as captain and that just shows you the person he is," Kidwell told reporters on Tuesday.
"At this stage of his career, I think Simon is just as happy not having the weight of captaincy on him."
Bromwich, capped 18 times, had impressed Kidwell with his leadership skills and modesty in the Anzac Test in Newcastle, which the Kiwis lost 16-0.
"The way he is around the group - very humble. He's another great leader and down at the Storm they think very highly of him," Kidwell said.
"Ultimately, they will both be part of a strong leadership group that set a strong culture for this team."
The Kiwis play Australia on October 15 in Perth before they seek to defend their Four Nations title in the United Kingdom.
Kidwell said all five newcomers to Test rugby league had shown impressive form during the NRL season.
"But we're always looking one step ahead, whether that's to next year's World Cup or beyond, and we also think all these players can play a big part in keeping the Kiwis on top for many years to come.
"In picking this team, we've tried to achieve a balance between players who are proven at Test level and those that are the future of the Kiwis programme"
Those unavailable selection include Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Peta Hiku, Dean Whare, Kieran Foran, Ben Matulino, Alex Glenn and Kodi Nikorima.
Kiwis: Gerard Beale, Adam Blair, Jesse Bromwich, Lewis Brown, Greg Eastwood, David Fusitu'a, Tohu Harris, Shaun Johnson, Jordan Kahu, Solomone Kata, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Thomas Leuluai, Issac Luke, Simon Mannering, Te Maire Martin, Manu Ma'u, Jason Nightingale, Kevin Proctor, Jordan Rapana, Joseph Tapine, Jason Taumalolo, Martin Taupau, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.
Wales international Tyson Frizell has been included in Australia's squad for the Four Nations.
The St George Illawarra second row has made five appearances for Wales and featured in the 2011 Four Nations and 2013 World Cup.
Born in Wollongong, Australia, the 24-year-old qualifies to play for Wales through his Swansea-born father.
Frizell can continue to represent Wales as they are a tier two nation and Australia are tier one.
Players for tier two nations - teams ranked fourth to 10th in the world - can also compete, where eligible, for one of the big three nations, Australia, England and New Zealand.
Frizell was left out of the Wales squad for the 2017 World Cup qualifiers with Serbia and Italy in October, after telling coaching staff he was unavailable for selection.
He is one of seven new names in the Kangaroos squad, who face Scotland in their opening game at Hull KR's Lightstream Stadium on 28 October.
Australia squad: Cameron Smith (captain), Darius Boyd, Shannon Boyd, Boyd Cordner, Cooper Cronk, Josh Dugan, Blake Ferguson, Jake Friend, Tyson Frizell, Matt Gillett, Valentine Holmes, Greg Inglis, David Klemmer, James Maloney, Josh Mansour, Trent Merrin, Michael Morgan, Matt Moylan, Justin O'Neill, Josh Papalii, Matt Scott, Sam Thaiday, Johnathan Thurston, Aaron Woods
Will add England and Scotland squads as they are named.
