Back in the 1970s they used to have the tackle counts in the Daily Mirror each Monday.
There was a guy from Souths named Gary Stevens who would always make high 40s and now and then low 50s in the tackle counts. This was back when they only gave one person the tackle.
I used to take an interest in these every week and noticed one week a guy named Fred Pagano(he did play for the Sharks but think he was with Newtown at the time)made 71,72 or 73 tackles.Cant remember the exact figure but definitely low 70s.
Not trying to discredit a guy like Hindmarsh but I'm trying to illustrate a point that he would make 70 tackles but had a few guys in the tackles helping him.
Pagano,Stevens,Terry Randall these guys were tackling machines.

Was it Smith or Cronk that did almost exactly the same thing in origin a few years back?

Who pays attention? Ive seen it 100 times over the years. It's not that different to running into an offside player to try and get a penalty. Every hooker does it. Run into the player, pas ball into player, trip over player. It's just all part of the gamesmanship. Ennis would do it in a second given a chance.

Smith isn't really pissed off. He knows it's on. He's just manipulating officials again.

Wasn't there someone in an origin match a few years ago who made about 70 tackles?

Hindmarsh maybe?
