There are plenty of stories about tough footballers, and Newcastle’s Dan Tolar’s has to rank among the best of them, after his effort on Sunday on the Gold Coast.
Tolar tried to play on despite fracturing a knee cap and now faces surgery and two months on the sideline.

DUREAU TAKES HALF CHANCE

Although Newcastle’s 24 - 12 win over Conulla was a classic team performance, you couldn’t hide the stand out performance of Scott Dureau.
A surprise starter, he’s now taken a strong grip on the half-back spot, especially with Jarrod Mullen now out for up to 3 weeks with a cracked rib.

BEN ROGERS NOW IN DOUBT FOR KNIGHTS

The wounded Newcastle Knights took another hit today with five-eighth Ben Rogers now in serious doubt for Sunday’s match against South Sydney.
Troubled by a virus, he couldn’t train with the team today and would make 9 of the top 25 playing roster unavailable should he fail to recover.

Knights forward Danny Wicks just can’t take a trick. A day after being named for his first game, he was unable to train due to illness.
Wicks’s pre-season has been plagued with problems but its unclear if today’s setback will effect his chances of playing on Sunday.
