NRL: WILL MULLEN PLAY IN LOCKYER’S 300TH?

April 30, 2009

The Knights could yet play Jarrod Mullen this Saturday night against Brisbane, if his shoulder surgery is postponed until the off-season.
The crafty playmaker trained with the squad on Thursday, less than 24 hours after thinking his 2009 campaign was over.

KNIGHTS REINING IN DEBT AS BUDGET BRINGS RECOVERY

May 5, 2009

If the Knights’ bean counters are on the money, Newcastle’s future in the National Rugby League is guaranteed.
The club released its 2008 budget on Tuesday night, and while the figures are improving, it’s yet to rule out privatisation.

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS HAPPY WITH FOUR CORNERS PROGRAM

May 12, 2009

The Newcastle Knights featured heavily during a Four Corners program on the recent controversy surrounding some NRL players and group sex.
Club CEO Steve Burraston says while the team was predominantly shown in a favourable light, he’s been left disappointed by how some junior players were portrayed.

PATERSON COMEBACK ON HOLD FOR ANOTHER WEEK

May 14, 2009

Knights’ coach Brian Smith is yet to settle on his line-up for Saturday’s clash with the Roosters, with Adam MacDougall and Aku Uate both in doubt.
Cory Paterson has expressed interest in playing for Lakes in the local league this weekend, but the coach says he’ll be rested for a possible return to the national comp next round.

MAD DOG TO MISS COWBOYS CLASH

May 19, 2009

Knights’ centre Adam MacDougall will see a specialist in Sydney on Wednesday, to determine the extent of a knee injury.
In any case, he’s been left out of the team to play the Cowboys next Monday, while Brian Smith is sticking with Ben Rogers and Jarrod Mullen at six and seven.

MULLEN KEEN TO LEAD

May 26, 2009

Some good news for the Knights with those placed on report against the Cowboys, cleared of facing any further sanctions.
There’s no hiding from that 36 - 10 result against the Cowboys however, and with two of Newcastle’s best now missing through Origin, Sunday’s match against the Bulldogs just got even tougher.

SIMPSON IN STRIFE

May 29, 2009

There were some dramas at the Knights today with Scott Dureau now set to start against the Bulldogs on Sunday, while Steve Simpson remains a major concern with an ankle injury.
The reshuffle comes as the club aims to match a record home game winning streak, by beating the competition leaders.

KNIGHTS DUO EAGER FOR THEIR CHANCE

May 29, 2009

The Newcastle Knights face a tough task if they’re too equal a club record of nine straight home wins this weekend.
Hosting competition leaders, The Bulldogs, Newcastle will be without two of its Origin stars and possibly former state star Steve Simpson.
Two players who can’t wait however are Scott Dureau and Shannon McDonnell.
The latter only joined the Knights a few weeks ago as he searched for a go after getting limited opportunity at West Tigers.
For Dureau, Sunday is another chance for him to impress after missing the team’s last two games.

A NEW LOOK FOR THE KNIGHTS THIS WEEKEND

June 3, 2009

A new-look Knights outfit will host Parramatta on Sunday afternoon, with the entire first-grade squad to shave their heads to raise money for kids with cancer.
There’ll be no favours done for the Eels though, in a match of firsts for the Newcastle side.

SWINE TIME FOR TWO KNIGHTS

June 8, 2009

The Newcastle Knights were directed to quarantine both their Blues players today as a precaution, amid rugby league’s swine flu drama.
Kurt Gidley and James McManus were both issued with relevant medication, but it seems more a case of ‘the horse has bolted’, given both have been among their teammates for days.

PATO CONCERN, DOOGS READY TO GO

June 22, 2009

The Knights head back to work tomorrow after the weekend bye, and that’s when Adam MacDougall plans to confirm his return as well.
Cory Paterson was hoping to do likewise, but specialists are still to properly assess a shoulder injury, suffered while playing in the Newcastle competition.
