A Top 25 Squad

I don't think we have enough NRL ready players to make up a top 25....

And if this is true (which I also believe to be the case) then therein lies the crux of Hagans problem, the reason for little sacking throughout the year and why 2008 was as dismal as it was.

We didn't have enough NRL players in 2008...and when that became clear to Hagan, rather than try other players, he persisted with the ones who weren't ready. With no result IMO. Tautai, Williams, Hauraki, and Oake showed (for mine) that they weren't yet up to it quite early...and especially with guys like Grothe and Galuvao with a wealth of experience they shouldn't have stayed. It also held back guys like Horo, Wright, Iwi, Jono Wright, Etu etc who might very well have been NRL ready...

Surely that would constitute the top 25,and all are NRL ready or NRL experienced besides Etu,Mitchell,Mannah who surely are good enough to make the step up!

The difference between NRL ready and NRL quality is our problem!

I purposely didn't attempt to pick Parra's top 25 for next year however for those of you that did, would you say that all of your selections were/are/will be ready for NRL from round 1???

As I mentioned in the original post, I think a top 25 needs to be ready NOW, not hopefully later in the year or next year. If they aren't ready then you can't use them and they are wasting a top tier position (aka Anthony Mitchell in 2008).
Oh no, the 25s we're naming will not be ready/first grade standard. But yes, I agree they should be.

We have failed tohelp some of the fringe guys playing firsts each week to improve their game this year.

Personally I would've paid for him instead of Hauraki and Oake. You can call me stupid in a couple of years if Williams is terrible - but he looks for all the world like he has the tools to be a very good first grade forward.
Be interesting to see how he goes with some good coaching.
I'd have paid 80-100 to keep Tony for the next two seasons, and then maybe more for the next contract if he showed improvement.

Sure he maybe eventually turn into a 120-150K player, but if we start paying overs to keep him untested in firsts and honestly not that impressive when there - I don't buy this position stuff that Hayne was worried about, imo good players worth 150K+ will show their brains and enthusiasm and initiative regardless of the number teh coach has on their back - then where does it end?

Weller and Oake are two of the guys who didn't step up their games to first grade standard imo, and the coaching the past two seasons hasn't really brought improvements in them either.

I didn't know we lost Tim Mortimer

I made some enquiries about Tim last week and at that time when the rumour surfaced he hadn't signed with anyone. infact Manly were the ones who gave him the flick this year when he turned out for us.
