UPDATE 2: Channel 9 reported today (31/3) that doctors have diagnosed Alex as a quadriplegic. Terrible, terrible news.

UPDATE: Doctors confirm severe damage done to his spinal cord. 2 years of rehabilitation all but ends his career.

His cord is NOT severed completely but doctors aren't sure how badly it's actually damaged.

Lifting in a three man tackle is of course the most intelligent thing in the world to do.

Nah man, was McKinnons own fault, Cam Smith said so...

Seriously though, this sucks hard. Terrible to see what looked to be a solid first grade career in jeopardy under any circumstances. Hope he pulls up ok.

Horrible situation.

Goes to show why the lifting tackle is against the rules. There is no control of the ending once you put a person in that position. The wrong twist or reflex action and it all gets very bad very quickly

Didn't you hear? It was all McKinnon's fault that he tried to roll through to protect himself as he was about to be dropped on the top of his head. Smith said so.

The Storm players are mostly at fault. Especially the leg lifter. Yes Mckinnon's actions contributed to the accident but once a man is off his legs and above the perpendicular you can't blame him for what happens.

Lifting with a hand between the legs is a big no no. Lifting above the perpendicular is a big no no. Whatever you say about Mckinnon, if he wasn't put in that position in the first place he wouldn't have been in a situation to get hurt.

There should be a serious multi week suspension here.

This is a pretty serious injury as an aside. Like might not walk again serious. Its not far off where NFL player Kevin Everett got injured and he did go on to walk again but it took like 5 years.

Tackle was completely legal. No ones fault when a freak accident happens sad for Alex and hope he recovers.

Years of grubby tactics?? Sometimes the anti Melbourne bias on these forums from certain people is stupid.
Pretty sure grubby tactics have been around since the inception of the game.

GTFO with that crap.

If that turns out to be the case, I can see McClane getting some serious weeks. Lifting into a dangerous position has been illegal for some years and the fact that players still aren't getting it through their heads is gonna propel the NRL to make an example.

Referee boss has already stated that one it was not a send off offence and two be more then likely no suspension. The hyperbole is incredible. :?

Instead of trying to crucify players or a team how about we just keep it to best wishes for Alex.

Obviously that would be the absolute worst case scenario though (outside of him dying or something)

Im not making any comment on who was at fault or who wasn't.

But surely the extent of an injury shouldn't have any bearing on any suspension.

Um... no. Hands between the legs, player lifted above the horizontal. Hasn't been completely legal for decades you fool.

No it wasn't. Its not Krisnan Inu throwing Inglis onto his head, but it was tipping a player over into an awkward position while lifting a leg.

Fractured vertebrae is bad but it shouldn't effect his ability to walk.
I have x2 fractured vertebrae t9 and t8 and never had issues with the ability to walk recover takes forever but who knows with back injuries you may be right. :(

I hope this isn't the case.
