Star filly Alinghi died yesterday during the birth of her seventh foal just aged 15.just two days after the running of the 2017 Alinghi Stakes named in her honour.

    BLUE DIAMOND WINNER DIES

FOUR-time Group 1 winner Alinghi died yesterday after complications during the birth of her seventh foal.

Alinghi was a star two and three-year-old, listing the 2004 Blue Diamond and 2005 Newmarket Handicap among her 11 victories.

Trained by Hall of Famer Lee Freedman, Alinghi was unplaced only twice in 18 starts and won $3.4 million in prizemoney.

She was bought by Arrowfield Stud and sent to the US where she won a Group 3 race for the late Bobby Frankel before being retired to the breeding barn in the NSW Hunter Valley.

I wasn't a great fan of the horse but still sad news.

She had a Deep Impact yearling, so hopefully that is the "good one" they all get.

She got ripped off when they took her to America.

Sad news, she was a top little filly.

Her clashes with Fastnet Rock were great viewing.
