Are the Panthers the most disappointing team of this season?

lol there is not a chance on Earth that you beat the Cowboys in Townsville for JT's 300th NRL game, a fact you know to be true.
It would have been better to get them this weekend but you can't be too picky. They'll be knackered just like the Dogs were last week. Thurston may not even play, he's getting on a bit you know.

Panthers are on their way up as much as I doubted them earlier in the year ( as everyone else did)

Their confidence grows each week and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go on a similar run Canberra did last year (8-9 games straight)

He might be a talented player but:

1. Super league isn't as high a standard as NRL.

2. Penrith have close to the strongest roster in their history right now. He wouldn't get a run barring injuries.

You havent been here long enough to understand Albert yet. He has a thing for anything that smells of cheese and holds a white flag. All the dog shit on the streets of Paris had quite an effect on him.

Luke Walsh & Chris Sandow have also carved it up in the ESL. It just goes to show a bog average NRL player can turn it on in reserve grade here and first grade in the ESL.
Garcia was never even on the cusp on first grade selection here.

Luke Walsh was a first choice half for Penrith when he was playing in Australia, not a reserve grader. Chris Sandow was a first choice half for South Sydney and Parramatta, not a reserve grader, but lost his first grade position at the latter when he said he wasn't going to follow the coach's plan. It is Sandow's mental attitude (which includes a gambling addiction) that has destroyed him, not his on field playing talents. He has turned in some great match performances in Australia and the UK.

Ben Garcia was probably recruited by Gus Gould, who had watched him in Super League on TV, but the coaching genius Anthony Griffin showed no interest in Garcia, despite his good performances at the Auckland Nines.

Luke Walsh was Penrith's only choice for halfback. Before he came Wallace,Gower and Campbell left in as many seasons and Penrith's halves were 1 game wonder Joe Williams, Ritchie Williams and Wade Graham
Even Luke Lewis played halfback for a few games. It was a poor depth under the Elliott & Leary.
After Walsh came all he had to do was fight off Travis Burns or Isaac John. Not much of a competition for spots.
He had his good games and his poor games. His poor games were like a performance of reserve grader.

Yes Luke Walsh & Chris Sandow were first graders but both were far in too inconsistent for the rigours of the NRL. Both players had good games but most of the time they struggled for consistency. Against teams that had better halves they usually got outplayed.
The ESL is an inferior competition, probably why Walsh & Sandow had more consistency and stronger performances.

Yes Sandow's attitude was poor I don't disagree. He had the talent to be a long term star but as you have illustrated his problems were too much for him to overcome.

Garcia will go down along with AFL convert Josh Hall as the strangest signing of Gould's. Both were never really close to a NRL first grade debut.

Auckland nines form has no relevance on first grade performances.

Great kicking game, but not much else. It all came together in 2010 when most of Penrith's tries came off his kicks, and we ran second. Teams worked it out though, and the tries from kicks dried up alarmingly in the latter stages of the season.

I thought he had an alright kicking game. I don't remember him finding the turf often when kicking from inside our own half. Pretty decent with his short kicking game.

He needed to run the ball far more often, we were a much better side when he did. And he could have used some more time with the tackle bags.

Bomb and hope. What worked was Coote and Gordon taking some crazy catches

At Catalans Walsh is on a one year contract. Walsh's strength is his kicking game esp at the opponents line, and his goal kicking. But his defence is dire and he may not be renewed because Catalans expect stronger defence. The club has a young French five eighth, Lucas Albert, whom it is grooming for the big time. So Walsh's contract may not be extended or renewed.
