Auckland 9s in Jeopardy?

It’s entertaining, is perfect to create a big weekend event and is actually a good for format to develop the game in new countries. It could als eventually be a commonwealth and Olympic sport if the game took it seriously enough.
Although I’m clearly not a fan of nines both domestically and internationally I can at least accept that the NRL pre-season Auckland nines was both entertaining and quite successful. Maybe it’s just a Southern Hemisphere thing with the great weather and all that but in England nobody gives a toss about 9’s or 7’s. A bit like our version of state of origin. Lancashire v Yorkshire.

Why does League have 9 players in this form of the game when Union has 7, taking into account Union has 15 normally as opposed to League's 13?
could have worked for both, but just like the name of our sport, they have won there as well...

With the Roosters winning the comp in 2018, it caps off a reasonably impressive statistic for the Auckland Nines. With the exception of the year the Eels were scrapped of the title for salary cap cheating, the Nines grand final has been a good predictor of future success in the NRL

2014 - Cowboys beat Brisbane (both 2015 grand finalists)
2015 - Bunnies beat Sharks (Sharks 2016 premiers)
2016 - void
2017 - Roosters beat Panthers (Roosters 2018 premiers)

The end
