I think we'll struggle to take 20 wickets in all of the tests.

It's a big worry. We need a spinner to have a great domestic season.

where it say that white has been sent over

White bizarre choice to replace McGain

October 04, 2008 AUSTRALIA'S selectors sprang a surprise Saturday by bizarrely choosing Victorian captain Cameron White to replace injured legspinner Bryce McGain in the Test squad to face India.
White has been regarded as a limited overs option in recent times, his last flirtation with a spot in the Test side when he toured India as part of the victorious 2004 team.

Since then, White has worked hard to improve his flat leg breaks, but has only been used sparingly as a bowler when in the Australian one-day and Twenty20 teams.

His more lasting impression has been made as an uncomplicated batsman capable of hitting sixes.

I watched the final session on the web, Krezja appears to have gotten his sh*t together, bowled with great control, good flight and looked the goods.

It's encouraging at least.

The cupboard is just so bare at the moment.

One thing is for sure - it's suicide going in without a specialist. If we do that, we may as well go in with three quicks + Watson as the bowling attack, because we're going to need a shirtload of runs to try and wear down the Indians.

A five prong pace attack in India results in a 4-0 Indian Victory.

My side, assuming that Krezja is not an option, is this:

1-P.Jaques
2-M.Hayden
3-R.Ponting
4-M.Hussey
5-M.Clarke
6-S.Katich
7-B.Haddin
8-S.Watson
9-B.Lee
10-S.Clark
11-D.Bollinger

Jaques is out Timbo, Kat has the opening spot, and it looks like Watson will get the middle order spot

sorry typo

name me a current wrist spinner who has done well over there in recent times?

i can see the variation side of things, but im not sure thats the plan we should have on this tour, especially with our spin options, for a couple of tests anyway

Kumble and Caneria do pretty well, although Caneria hasn't toured India for some time.

White is very much like Kumble and he has improved considerably since Warnie started working with our Institute.

Casson must have run over one of the selectors dogs, his results in the Windies weren't too bad for a first up effort but cant get another gig.

I heard the selectors reason for not picking Casson is he doesn't push the ball quick enough for India. Plus i think they believe he is Australia's long term option and they don't want to ruin him on this tour which is a possibility.

If we want to top the worst bowler in the history of the game play Krejza. Forget him 4 pace attack time.

To be fair, it's hard to see how White could have gotten worse...

White is like Kumble in the same way Mick Lewis is like Glenn McGrath :sarcasm:

sorry, but I understand if stats guru doesn't let you compare similar actions

White will be a lot more "similar" to Kumble when:
1. He masters the art of having the ball bounce once before the popping crease - 0, 2 or 3 are not quite good enough.
2. He learns to bowl straight.
3. He controls and varies his flight, and manages to turn the small a wee bit.
4. He takes 500+ test wickets...

so White bounces the ball 2 or 3 times, and Kumble varies his flight

do you watch much cricket ?

would you say Mendis will only be sucessful if and when he gets 500 wickets ?

1. Yes I sauid that
2. Yes I do.
3. Nope, given he plays in this era a comparison with the likes of Kumble, Warne and Murali becomes a lot more valid if he's achieved something along those lines.

4. Regarding the Hadlee comparison, my action is similar, just lacking 400+ test wicket at 22, but clearly the comparison is warranted :)

Sorry for confusing you twizzle :)
