Webb...........Heading for Stardom. S.O.O., only a matter of time.
Fa'afilli.........Gets the nod,but only just.
Toopi...........Certainty!!!
Martin. ........Has one thing that we missed. The boot.
Meli. ............Another certainty
Leuluai.........Hohaia will have to pull out something special.Leuluai will have to be
real bad.
Hohaia..........Only if Jones hasnt recovered fully,Could be B/Card for him,or the
bench.Doubt the latter though.

Meli would be shit in the centers he dosen't have a good passing game and is easily fooled in to making the wrong desion on defence.

2 Mellars - big, strong, quick. I think Henry's game has gone back slightly since the advent of Stace not kicking the wide bombs
3 Martin - absolute certainty - no doubt about it. Class class class. Will play Origin during his stint at the Warriors
4 Toopi
5 Meli
6 Hohaia - Leuluai is mentally strong, but I want a creative half to compliment Stace. Hohaia has that knack of making something out of nothing with his acceleration. After seeing Thommy's lack of options at the sevens, I think he's a good year or two away. I think he's a future replacement for Stacey when he retires given his organisation and maturity though.
7 Jones

Why not try P.J at six? (That's what he was originally brought for!) This would help to reduce the chance of further serious injury for the poor sod (less defensive work in the halves) and allow both Monty and Sione to start at hooker and lock respectively.

Because I think he's more of an asset at 9. PJ wouldn't play if he thought there was chances of reinjury. I think it is in our best interest to have either Latu or Marsh, dependent on the injury situation, raking it for us. You only have to look back at the Parramatta match early in the season, and the come from behind win against Canberra at Ericsson to see that a dynamo like Marsh or Latu is a match winner, especially for a big unit like the Warriors. One quick play of the ball, a tiring defence and either of those two have the ability to snipe into a gap, or at the very least give their forwards a run from 5 metres in front of the Ad line. It doesn't necessarily save you in the halves either, teams will continue to target a Campbell or a Jones if they think a player is hesitant in D.

Monty to me is a natural lock these days with his knee injury slowing him down. I thought his performance was underrated last year, because while he didn't have Marsh/Latu's scintillating pace, he could muscle players off to reach 10 metres from dummy half, to go along with his D. But I think his defensive work rate is best used roaming around playing lock.

Fair enough - but I often wonder what path P.J would have taken if Monty hadn't done his knee in 2002. :-k

But that's kind of like wondering what would have happened if we hadn't lost the two competition points against Wests ... so I'll shut up now!

"Doesn't have a good passing game"?!?!?

Meli might not be a creative genius but he can rip it onto a guys chest 20 metres both ways, whereas Toopi is one of the worst passers of the football I have ever seen play first grade!

I agree with you that we need PJ,Monty and Sione starting but I would suggest that PJ starts at hooker, Monty at lock and Sione at stand off. Personally I think Sione could develop into the best five-eigth in league in the traditon of Wally Lewis and Brad Fittler.

Sione has shown he has a good passing game, agilty, speed and size. He has an exellent short kicking game which we saw in action many times in 2003. Probably most notably in the Parammata and roosters games. As to a long kicking game he could probably develope one but I think we have adequate cover in that area with Stacey, PJ and Brent Webb...Tony Martin can probably kick a bit as well(aside from is goal kicking).

Iafeta made exellent points also as to why PJ and Monty should stay at hooker and lock respectivley.

1.Brent Webb
2. Henry Fa'fili
3.Tony Martin
4.Clinton Toopi
5.Francis Meli
6.Sione Faumuina
7.Stacey Jones[/quote]

That's a fairly impressive backline - Webb, Fafili, Toopi, Meli and Jones - in fact all of them are reputable.

Has this backline changed much since last season?

1- Brett Webb
2- Tony Martin
3- Clinton Toopi
4- Vince Anderson
5- Francis Meli
6- Thomas Leuluai
7- Stacy Jones

Obviously, Lance Hohaia will be pushing for a berth in the halves, and there will be competition in the three quarters

I've gone with Leuluai and Anderson because, among other reasons, their form at the end of the last season was superlative. They haven't done anything to warrant their non-selection

PJ has been a revelation at hooker, and Latu looks to be the one that will compete for that spot. I'd like Monty on the bench, but as he is the captain, I'd have Ali start on the bench and hit the game in the 20min mark.

The back line is largely unchanged. There's a bit of movement in the standoff role and a bit jostling for the center position

I think the back lines would probably make more sense if they were included in a starting 17, and I suppose now is as good a time as any.

Here's mine

1 Brent Webb
2 Tony Martin
3 Clinton Toopi
4 Vinnie Anderson
5 Francis Meli
6 Thomas Leuluai
7 Stacey Jones

8 Jerry SeuSeu
9 PJ Marsh
10 Richard Villasanti
11 Awen Guttenbiel
12 Sione Faumuina
13 Monty Betham

14 Ali Lauiti'iti
15 Wairangi Koopu
16 Evarn Tuimavave
17 Iafeata Paleaaesina

because PJ is alot better hooker than Monty and he is a better 9 than a 6.

pj could/can play anywhere, he was #6 at parra.

monty is a specialist hooker. i dont think he is capable of playing anywhere else (except the bench). he is a fantastic #9 when he gets his dander up
