ST George Illawarra skipper Trent Barrett failed to fly out to New Zealand today for the Dragons' National Rugby League clash with the Warriors due to a knee injury.

Dragons coach Nathan Brown said Barrett had undergone an MRI scan today on a knee injury he suffered at training yesterday.

He said he would not know the extent of the injury until later this afternoon.

"Obviously he wouldn't have had an MRI scan if he wasn't a concern," Brown said.

The classy pivot had only just come back from a lengthy ankle injury.

In his first game in 10 months, Barrett last weekend committed the schoolboy error of dropping the ball over the try line in the Dragons' 21-12 loss to Canberra at Oki Jubilee Stadium.

Dragons coach Brown already had enough worries for his side's crucial round two clash with the Warriors in Auckland tomorrow.

High-profile centre Mark Gasnier was earlier granted the weekend off because his preparation had been "severely affected".

St George Illawarra chief executive Peter Doust said Gasnier had been confused about his place in the game, but after talks with club officials and professional advice the 22-year-old had decided to return to training on Monday.

So much for the new training regime that would counter the horror stretch of injuries suffered for the last few seasons.

Remember what happened last time we sent the senonc string side over, in 2002?? We got the chocolates!!

Cheers,

Did anyone watch that Doco on The Great Escape on Wednesday evening??

This is getting beyond a joke now. Not only are we faced with constant disappointment on the weekends, but we cop all this mid week.

If he is out for an extended period, f*cking send him to Newtown.

Cant say Im a huge Raper fan either to be honest, but thats a Mundine thing.

I felt so excited last Sunday, new year, new hope following a disatrous year of injuries and suspensions and having to watch bozos like John Cross in the red v. Since around 5pm Sunday, its all the same sh*t.

Perenara injured, Barrett injured, Gasnier having a whinge, Bailey suspended.

All thats left is the joy that Cross retired. If they bring Cross out of retirement I dead set give up.
