thanks!

The North Sydney Bears continue their exceptional run towards the Finals with a convincing 32-22 victory over the New Zealand Warriors.

The victory for the Bears means they move deeper inside the top eight at the completion of round 22, while the Warriors? minor premiership hopes took a significant blow.

Kirisome Auva?a and Cody Walker set the tone early for the Bears, bagging two tries each, before an inspirational defensive performance in the final quarter of the game denied the Warriors any chance at a comeback.

The Warriors received a penalty 20 metres out in the fifth minute of the game, and David Bhana took full advantage of the early gifted field position as he darted over from dummy half to open the scores.

The Warriors missed out on a valuable opportunity to score back-to-back tries but couldn?t take advantage of a three-on-one overlap on the left edge with the final pass travelling into touch.

A Cody Walker bomb off the back of that costly error resulted in a six-again call that the Bears capitalised on with Ed Murphy shooting out of dummy half and passing to Joel Reddy, who strolled over to lock up the scores at 4-all.

The Bears marched up field off the kickoff and Walker threw a picture-perfect pass to Latrell Schaumkel. Schaumkel caught the ball on the outside of his defender, for the two-on-one overlap and provided the try to Auva?a who was lingering in support.

The Warriors? defence was in allsorts, conceding three linebreaks in the space of four minutes, with only some outstanding cover defence denying Auva?a his second try in the 19th minute.

Jack Gosiewski burst through the line shortly afterwards, before Walker picked the ball up out of dummy half a few tackles later and spun through various defenders on his way to the try line to increase their lead to 16-4.

Konrad Hurrell powerfully stamped his authority on the game 10 minutes from halftime after dominating some Bears defenders close to the try line to score.

Auva?a then beat two defenders and scored for the Bears to take a 22-10 lead on the stroke of halftime after some incredible work from Darren Nicholls who threw a perfect offload for the try.

The Bears scored before the Warriors touched the ball in the second half after Walker dummied left and broke through the defence to complete his double.

The Warriors responded as Sam Rapira barged over from inclose to score.

A fifth-tackle penalty conceded by the Warriors allowed Ed Murphy to capitalise as he pushed through some Warriors defenders and planted the ball down with one hand to extend their lead to 32-16.

The Warriors dominated the following 20 minutes with plenty of attack in Bears territory but inspirational North Sydney goal line defence simply refused to crack.

The visitors crossed with seven minutes to play, as Tomas Aoake scored to reduce the deficit to 10, but the Warriors missed their opportunity to grab sole position in first place.

Great to hear.
They did it without Cody too.

what i'm thinking is both keary and sutto might be unable to play against bulldogs, so madge didn't want cody to be risked getting injured this weekend, because he might get the call up to play against the bulldogs

Or at least warm up on Friday and be on standby in case of injury.

If Keary and Sutto don't play Madge will go with Stewart I think, but Cody is a possibility still.

Alien, in Madge we trust, lol!!!

Madge will make the right call.

For the fourth consecutive week, the Bears defeated an opposition team sitting above them on the ladder – this time a 32-point victory over the fifth-placed Newcastle Knights.

Angus Crichton, Chris Grevsmuhl and Tulsa Saumamoa dominated through the middle in the convincing 52-20 victory, while John Olive was an explosive asset at left centre.

Paterika Vaivai from the Knights and Nathan Brown from the Bears were sent to the sin bin for two separate incidents during the match.

A horrible start for the Bears saw a knock on in the first set of the game, followed by an early penalty that gifted the Knights field position.

Carlos Tuimavave took full advantage by slicing through the Bears defensive line to score the opening try after the ball was shifted towards the left edge.

Bernard Gregorius denied the Knights back-to-back tries thanks to an unbelievable try-saving tackle on Honeti Tuha, before Joel Reddy immediately scored up the other end after a perfect tap on by Olive.

The Bears received a penalty in the 13th minute after Brown was put in a dangerous position, before Nicholls ran the ball through a hole off the back of the penalty to give the Bears a 10-4 lead.

The Knights’ kick pressure was ruthless, with Nicholls being illegally hit late and high on two occasions in as many minutes.

Daryl Millard once again turned field position into points for the Bears after shaping to pass to his outside men, but instead ran the ball himself and used raw power to increase their lead to 16-4.

Latrell Schaumkel matched Reddy’s effort from earlier with an outstanding try-saving tackle, again on Tuha who could not seem to find the try line.

Nicholls almost scored his second try but dropped it over the line, before Musgrove was sent to the sin bin for constant ill discipline.

The Bears immediately took advantage of the extra man, as Schaumkel charged onto a ball at full pace and danced his way through the defence to score.

The Knights finally hit back just three minutes out from halftime after a wonderful flick pass from Pat Mata’utia found Kerrod Holland who went over untouched.

Crichton scored the try of the afternoon just four minutes into the second half after he bumped off three defenders in his 20-metre raid to the try line to score under the posts.

Reddy made it back-to-back tries for the Bears after he received a pass from Millard and evaded various Knights defenders to score his second try of the day.

Olive increased the Bears’ lead to 38-8 in the 58th minute after he shaped to flick pass to Reddy but instead went himself and showed incredible power to get across the line.

The Knights hit back five minutes later after Jaelen Feeney went himself to score a simple try, before Brown was sent to the sin bin for back chat when play re-started.

Like the Bears earlier, the Knights immediately took full advantage of the extra man as Tuimavave ran straight at Millard and unloaded to Mata’utia, who planted the ball down with ease.

Any hope of another Knights miracle comeback was squashed when Saumamoa charged forward and magnificently offloaded to Reddy, who completed his hat trick in the left corner to make the score 42-20.

Some John Olive magic sparked an incredible solo try with five minutes remaining after he picked the ball up from dummy half, ran through a hole and completely burned a Knights cover defender to put the ball down in almost the same position as Reddy did just minutes earlier.

Grevsmuhl showed incredible power on the fulltime buzzer to charge through and offload for Jack Gosiewski to score and bring up the half century for the Bears for the first time this season.

Bears Downed in Tight Encounter

The North Sydney Bears went down to the Wyong Roos 18-16 in Round24 of the NSW Cup in a game that saw a scoreless second half thanks to some inspirational defensive efforts from both sides.

The Roos flew out of the blocks early to an 18-0 lead after just 15 minutes, before the Bears clawed back with 16 unanswered points just before halftime.

Heavy and constant rain caused poor ball control by both sides for the entire 80 minutes, in a match that was separated only by a Tyler Cornish conversion.

The two sides had polarizing opening sets to the game, with a Leivaha Pulu try coming off the back of a Cody Walker bomb that went out on the full.

Pulu was put over by a lovely Cornish short ball, which meant the Roos were up 6-0 inside the opening two minutes.

Scott Sorensen was standing in an offside position at marker in the seventh minute, and therefore did not make a play at Matt McIlwrick, who picked the ball up from dummy half and ran 50 metres to score the Roos second try.

The Bears knocked the ball on coming out of trouble just moments later, which immediately invited the Roos back onto the attack.

Willie Manu thought he had a try after Cornish threw him an inside ball off the scrum as he crashed over, but the pass was ruled to have gone forward.

The Bears were losing the battle of field position at this stage of the game, and giving away back-to-back penalties certainly did not help their cause.

Cornish grubbered into the in-goal area in the 15th minute and showed tremendous speed to win the race and score off his own kick to increase the Roos lead to 18-0.

Angus Crichton made a huge run towards the goal posts and was pulled down just short of the line, before he dropped the ball in the act of scoring just five minutes later.

The Roos immediately found themselves back on the attack after the Crichton mistake and received a penalty in goal-kicking range. They opted for the two points, but Cornish missed to the right.

The Bears finally opened their account in the 28th minute when Cody Walker dummied to the left and burst through a hole to decrease the deficit to 18-6.

Suddenly, the Bears were back in the contest after an incredible Ed Murphy try off the kickoff set that included some great work from Darren Nicholls and Nathan Brown.

It started with Nicholls breaking through the line and brushing off various defenders, before passing to Brown, who charged up field and threw an unbelievable offload for Murphy to plant the ball down in the corner. Nicholls slotted the important conversion.

Walker passed for John Olive to score for the Bears two minutes out from halftime, which came off the back of a Matt Hyland forced dropout out from dummy half.

Nicholls was unable to convert the try, which meant the Roos led 18-16 at halftime.

An incredibly powerful run by Abraham Papalii and a tidy kick to the corner by Walker began the second half for both sides, however errors began to creep in due to the rain and slippery surface.

The Roos threw everything at the visitors from the 52nd to the 63rd minute, but the Bears incredible goal line defence withstood the pressure.

Another incredible Walker kick to the corner followed by a strong Olive tackle from marker allowed the Bears to go on the attack immediately afterwards, however this time it was the Roos defence that was far too strong.

Both sides had try-scoring opportunities in the final 15 minutes of the match, but failed to convert – which meant the fulltime score mirrored the halftime score of 18-16 to the Roos.

The Bears will face the Newtown Jets at Henson Park next week to determine where they finish within the top eight.

Roos 18 (Matt McIlwrick, Tyler Cornish, Leivaha Pulu tries; Mitch Cornish 3 goals)
Defeated
Bears 16 (John Olive, Ed Murphy, Cody Walker tries; Darren Nicholls 2 goals)
