Well it wasn't a success. No goals in Real Madrid's 4-0 victory over some Chinese mob. But he did play quite well. And was substituted after 74 minutes. So time will tell how good a deal this has been.

Oh...so he has to score a goal in his maiden outing to be labled a success story? Right?

He didn't play "quite well", he played very well.

Read some match reviews over the internet mate and then seriously consider your mordant opinion... and maybe even editing your post. :)

Passage -- David Beckham demonstrated exactly what he will bring to Real Madrid's star-studded line-up with some pinpoint passing and trademark dead-ball accuracy in an easy 4-0 win over the China Dragons Select XI.

In depth: Beckham's impressive start!

Funny, also, how you neglected to mention team mate Ronaldo (as bigger star as Beckham in some/many peoples opinions, as well as Real Madrid's top scorer last season) who missed two good chances early on in this same match? At least Beckham created several opportunities as opposed to Ronaldo, whom, by all accounts, didn't do squat all match.

Off Topic: Anyone else find it somewhat funny (ironic) that David Robert Joseph Beckham has chosen to wear shirt number 23 whilst at Real...Michael Jordans number? I've heard it mentioned several times now by soccer fans, as well as D.B in an interview he did with US Real Sports, that Beckham insisted on this because he has great desires and realistic expectations to break into the US market. :-$

I can't fathom why...given soccer's success in the USA, or lackthereof, in comparison to Europe.
