Oh... and I added Carriage in there because there had to be someone in the team to make sure the other players had a chance to stand out

I know, do you realise how tough it was to leave the two Muzza's, Lee Oudenryn and Peter McPhail out of that side

Ken Thornett is the GREATEST Parramatta player EVER. Sensational. Any success the Eela are having now can be traced back to his influence at the Club. He taught the Club how to become winners. A person who dug the well that the current crop are now drinking at. A champion on and off the field. He was also an innovator...
In his book 'Tackling Rugby' published in 1966 he suggested that State of Origin Rugby League was needed to save interstate football. That was about 14 YEARS before Kev Humphreys and Sen McAulliffe were credited with thinking up the idea.
I sent this information down to my mate Peter Frilingos and he told me that he was going to use it the next time he wrote about SOO origins. That was just before he passed away.

Just to be a bit different, here's my best-ever Brian Smith coached Parra side:

1. Clinton Schifcofske
2. Eric Grothe
3. Jamie Lyon (Yes I know, he's Judas and all that but its hard to leave him out)
4. Timana Tahu
5. Wade McKinnon
6. Jason Smith
7. Jason Taylor
8. Dean Pay
9. PJ Marsh
10. Nathan Cayless
11. Nathan Hindmarsh
12. Jarrod McCracken
13. Jim Dymock

14. Michael Vella
15. Tim Smith
16. Glen Morrison
17. Mark Riddell

I know that Tahu, Riddell and Morrison haven't been here that long, but I think its obvious that they'll be Eels legends. Tahu maybe hasn't done as much as the other two, but in the centre position he's far classier than the other contenders (ie Stu Kelly , David Vaealiki, Michael Beuttner etc). Fullback was a tough call, but Schifcofske has the size and strength and was superb for us in 1998 and 1999. Hodgson was good but his strength was really questionable in 2002-2003. In hindsight we should have kept Schicofske but at the time Hodgson was so good, but anyway hindsight is always 20-20. Mckinnon's great but I shifted him to wing. In two or so seasons I'd expect Tim Smith would have a mortgage on the halfback position.

Its probably not a real Brian Smith team - there are no wildcards or brain explosions. But heck, Jamie might walk off at half-time!!!

Graham Murray -or Little Artie as he was known - is one of the few players to have received a TEN rating with RLW while playing with the EELS
