While i am a fan of the Pirate branding, i reckon a simplified logo (just using a main feature) for onfield gear would go a long way for their brand recognition....

eg just using the skull as the badge

What they've got now is unique in the Australian sports market (if you disregard some smaller defunct brands) and simple enough that once they lunch and are around for a bit their brand will quickly sink in.

I'd be more worried about causing confusion by using West Coast in the name, but even that is a relatively minor concern.
