Brazil 3 Yanks 2

Great contribution from Alves - two strikes going into row Z, a first touch of the ball that completely f**ked a good oppurtunity on the attack and a whole lot of nothing in between.

Lucio made up for not burying a chance to score the winning goal but it should have been 4-2 had the ref correctly awarded a goal to Brazil.

Gees I bget the feeling you really hate Alves. The bloke played all of 20 mins out of position and you make out as if he was responsible for US almost winning the game, yet you were very quiet when he won the game for them against SA.
No Mention of Robinho losing the ball countless times and wasting chance after chance?
No mention of Felipe Melo blazing over?
No mention of the ineptitude of Ramires and Andre Santos?

Number one right back in the world according to you can't even dislodge Maicon and has to settle for being played out of position for 20 minutes a game.

Confederations Cup - Brazil win Confederations Cup

A stunning second-half comeback from Brazil gave them a 3-2 victory in the Confederations Cup final against a brave USA side in Johannesburg.

USA raced into a two-goal first-half lead to stun Brazil, with goals courtesy of Clint Dempsey after 10 minutes of play, and Landon Donavon in the 27th minute to capitalise on some slack defending from their opponents.
The second half was one-way traffic, with Brazil pouring pressure on their opponents with unrelenting waves of attacks, and Dunga's side got their rewards.
A clinical finish from Luis Fabiano in the first minute of the second half gave his side the momentum they needed, and although a Kaka headed goal was cruelly adjudged to have not crossed the line, Brazil continued to press.
Fabiano scored a rebound from Robinho's shot which struck the crossbar in the 74th minute, before a Lucio header from an Elano corner gave Brazil a sensational victory.
The match was officially dedicated by FIFA to Marc-Vivien Foe, who tragically died at the 2003 Confederations Cup in France at the semi-final stage playing for Cameroon, with both sets of players involved in the tributes.
Brazil dominated the early possession with Kaka a prominent presence in the side's attacks, and Robinho marauding down the left wing to test Jonathan Spector.
For all their attacking potency, Dunga's side looked hesitant and indecicive at the back, and USA capitalised in the tenth minute.
Spector escaped the shackles of the lightweight Andre Santos and whipped a cross into the penalty area from the right, and Dempsey stole into score his third goal in five appearances with a glancing touch to beat Julio Cesar at his far post.
Two minutes later, a delightful turn from Kaka on halfway released Robinho down the left, and the forward takes his shot early curling it to the far corner, but Tim Howard dived low to his right to tip the ball away.
At the other end, USA forward Charlie Davies bustled down the right wing, and his powerful run was hampered by a challenge from Gilberto, but to his credit the forward stayed on his feet when he could easily have gone down.
Brazil had USA firmly under the cosh, but they broke through the pace of Donovan, and he finished with terrific composure to give his side the lead after Davies had slipped the ball through to him in the 27th minute.
Brazil were undeterred in their attacking approach, and Robinho released Andre Santos, who instead of cutting the ball back from the byline attempted a shot from a tight angle, with Howard making a sharp save five minutes later.
Brazil coach Dunga was looking for a reaction in the second half from his underperforming players, and they responded with dramatic effect.

67'Amazing pass from Elano to Alves, but his touch was poor. Perhaps he'd be less cumbersome were he not dressed for a cold day on Pluto.

lol at being a androtop and complaining your hero's team mates had a sh*t game when you're the first to dig the boot into Sergio Ramos

Maicon is a safer option because he's abit more physical and slightly better defensively and in anycase better than Ramos as Madrid are after him, if Ramos was that good a RB would Madrid be chasing another one?
Besides are you really going to compare a bad 1st touch by Alves to Ramos gifting the opposition a goal?

Still can't understand how they missed that goal of Brazil's (Kaka ?). Must have been a good couple of feet over the line. Give the linesman a white cane and a guide dog.

Still, good game to watch.

The ref looked like he was in good position too, pretty poor stuff as it clearly went over the line by enough distance.

The commentator was rubbish too, confused Lucio for Santos all night

But, but, but, but I thought Alves was the best in the world and whenever you compared him to Ramos it was because Alves was the better defender, now Alves is the best in the world but can't crack his national team?

I didn't compare either situation just highlighted that he had a rubbish contribution like you usually do once every 6 months when Ramos has one.

These last few Confed Cup games tell me that this next World Cup is wide open. This Brazil side is pretty good when on song, but they are not a patch on some of their better sides in the past.

Plenty of weaknesses to exploit, particularly Santos on the left and Robinho's inconsistency.

Alves and maicon are the 2 of the best right backs in the world, Maicon is a very solid defender, probably the best RB defensively and can get behind the defence. Alves is not as good defensively as maicon, not many are, but he can take on defenders, he can score from range and he's a dead ball specialist. The two have different strengths and as Craig Foster said a guy like Dunga will go with Maicon because he's safer, thats how Dunga is.
I mean I'm not silly, I don't think Alves is god's gift to football (Messi is;-)) but he's good at what he does and he really did provide an extra dimension for barca in La Liga. I too think he was overpriced but when a player helps his club win the treble in his 1st season it can hardly be seen as a flop.

Yeah, I noticed you pretty much repeated Craig Foster word for word earlier.

I wouldn't take much notice of these games. Nobody really takes it seriously so there is more free flowing football because they're not as scared. Come the World Cup order will be restored. You wouldn't get Brazil 4 Egypt 3 in the opening game of the world cup.

Agree with that.

This Brazil side just don't impress me that much though. If you look at their performances in this tournament: they beat Egypt in the last minute due to a dubious penalty, won by a solitary goal against a very organised South Africa side (in the 87th minute) and won the final in the 85th minute against the US, from another set piece.

Some would say this is the mark of a champion side, but they constantly flirted with disaster. Dunga is a pragmatist but the results are going his way (largely due to the individuals at his disposal) and as long as this trend continues he keeps at bay a large number of detractors who do not like his style. Lets not forget it was only a few months ago when he was but a game away from being sacked. They routinely suffer against sides that decide to give them the ball.

But still, long way to go and they are very dangerous on the counter.
