Is it actually the case he's on huge money anyway?

regardless, will be interesting to see what he does - certainly league fans seem to think the transition is easy, clearly it isn't - all of Thorn, Burgess and SBW struggled - Thorn and SBW took several years. Transition seems to be easier the other way - people like O'Connor, Innes, Davies, Ridge, Sherlock, and Gourley were in first grade pretty quickly - and only O'Connor, Davies and Innes were really elite union players

Burgess is a 6 or 8, but he'll take a couple of seasons to be world class, and the next world cup is feasible

He was never good enough. The world cup is no place for a publicity stunt. Poms and aussie rugby administrations need to learn this lesson.

It's an alien stop start type of game

I doubt burgess had ever really been a union game

He has fallen a long way from the glory of the NRL grand final to watching a union game v Uruguay whilst 74000 league fans watched the British grand final a few miles away

Being part of the home team in a RU World Cup is a massive experience.

He's just copped the other side of that... Unfortunately for him.

He could try his luck at making the Lions in 2017 and be part of a Lions tour to NZ.

He has plenty of massive things to do in RU if he wants to stay,,.. If his heart is in it of course....

No great surprise - but maybe now league players and fans will loose a bit of their arrogance - he would be a success if he gave himself a few years to learn the game, as did SBW and Brad Thorn... TBH the transition is easier the other way, just because league is a simpler game (that's not a criticism, rather a strength)

I'm not sure why bedlam breakout is gloating over Burgess' failure.

He couldn't handle rugby union. So what? He was thrown in the deep end and it's not surprising he wasn't up to it.

He still represented his country in union.

Is that a failure?

Can't blame Burgess for that mistake.

Yes it was a failure. He was nowhere near up to it - but it was a failure by the selectors, not a personal failure of Burgess.
