Well, it looks as if the smoke signals from Tully were slightly distorted...must have attributed one extra try to Leoni ;-)

Cairns District Rugby League Round 16

Atherton Roosters v Yarrabah Seahawks at NQ Hardware Stadium
A Grade - Atherton 34-32
Reserves - Atherton 42-26
Under 18s - Atherton 38-18
The Analysis - Atherton grab second spot with two games to go but take a few injuries out of the match which could have an effect on their finals campaign. Yarrabah will be disappointed not to have won and now work on securing their place in the finals

Innisfail Leprechauns v Kangaroos at Calendar Park
A Grade - Innisfail 62-0
Reserves - Kangaroos 26-24
Under 18s - Drawn 24-24
The Analysis - Be afraid, be very afraid, the defending premiers have finally shown up on the radar. Just how much this is an indication of their form will be tested next week against Mareeba. Roos can now start planning their end-of-season trip, or better yet, levelling Vico Oval.

Tully Tigers v Ivanhoes Knights at Tully Showgrounds
A Grade - Tully 80-12
Reserves - Tully 16-12
Under 18s - Tully 52-10
The Analysis - A nice win on paper for Tully but the finals start now for them as they will be facing Atherton and Innisfail in the next two weeks. Ivanhoes round off the season with winnable games against Yarrabah and Mossman.

Brothers v Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks at Stan Williams Park
A Grade - Brothers 58-6
Reserves - Brothers 62-18
Under 18s - Brothers 40-24
The Analysis - The loss officially knocks Mossman out of the finals race but the writing was on the wall in June with five straight losses. Brothers.....well.......say no more. They won't lose another game (but I hope they do)

Southern Suburbs v Mareeba Gladiators at Alley Park
A Grade - Mareeba 32-30
Reserves - Suburbs 50-14
Under 18s - Suburbs won on forfeit
The Analysis - The match of the round it certainly was, and for Mareeba and Suburbs this could have been their most defining match of the year. Suburbs crash out of the five with this loss and now look in doubt for the finals. Mareeba move to THIRD but their final two games are against two finals contenders in Innisfail and Atherton. They won't be easy matches.

The table after Round 16:

28 - Brothers (642-280)
20 - Atherton (398-338)
19 - Mareeba (378-400)
18 - Yarrabah (475-492)
17 - Tully (436-372)
16 - Innisfail (410-316)
15 - Suburbs (406-404)
12 - Kangaroos (392-522)
11 - Mossman (327-420)
4 - Ivanhoes (286-606)

Next round:

Tully v Atherton
Mossman v Suburbs
Brothers v Roos
Yarrabah v Ivanhoes
Mareeba v Innisfail

Two very good games at Tully Showgrounds and Davies Park

From the Cairns Post

Mareeba's unfashionable band of tyros and veterans is approaching the forefront of style after downing the out-of-sorts Cockatoos at Alley Park yesterday.

A three-try surge in the space of 10 minutes helped the Mareeba Gladiators register a 32-30 win against Southern Suburbs and, more importantly, creep into third place on the CDRL table.

Solo tries to fullback Jeremy Richard (36th inute), winger Eli Beguly (41st minute) and hooker Jason Roos (46th minute) affected an 18-point turnaround which was all Mareeba needed to maintain control of the contest.

After visiting the CDRL outhouse last year, the Gladiators have remodelled their patchwork group into a taem of goers.

An energetic mix of eagar youngsters such as the Roos brotehrs - Jason, Dan and Josh- and stalwarts Rob Miller and John Garnier has established Mareeba amongst the movers and shakers. "They work pretty well together. I wouldn't swap any of my players," Gladiators coach Troy Cummings said.

Jason scored two tries and tackled anything that moved and front-rower Dan's bullocking chargers may have earned him a permanent A Grade spot.

Suburbs began a gallant fightback when fullback Darren Gordon converted a penalty attempt in the 53rd minute.

Converted tries to Jason Joinbee and teenager Luke Hamilton either side of Jason Roo's second four point gave the Cockatoos a sniff but their charge came too late.

The score in the cairns post was wrong tully did score 84 points, and Leoni happened to score the 1st try of the match.
I think mareeba will get innisfail at home, well im hoping they do anyway. although the Leps are looking dangerous and are almost full strength.
Big game for tully this week. Atherton werent hapy last time the tiggers went up there, and some guy named Leoni scored a 70m intercept try to win the game.
Oh well

Not only that Mud, but imagine how Atherton will be feeling. Currently second, they could finish fifth and play Mareeba again in the finals.

Atherton's recent history in finals is quite poor too....one win since 2000, and that was by one point.

If Yarrabah finish second or third I wouldn't mind betting that they make the Grand Final. Having said that, they'll lose to Brothers by 50 and then to Innisfail/Tully/Mareeba by 30.

But the real match of the round is on at the Mossman Showgrounds.....

it wont be a top game...but guarnteed there will some fisty cuffs. mossman are looking for revenge from the last game they played (hoes tried to take the sharks heads off in almost every tackle), it will be the most fiery game of the year forsure.

i will be getting some photos of the sharks soon too, just waiting on a mate i have in mossman, not sure when she will give them to me though.

rumours circulating from tully is that its all or nothing this week. innisfail vs tully match is a grand final all in itself. tully has had the best of the leps so far this year. but if the leps gt some of their big guns back. we are in for one hell of a game. hopefully the 5.8th for tully will gt man of the match again like last time these 2 sides met. :D

And if anyone had predicted tullykiwi06's Top Five at the start of the season, they would have needed to get their head checked.

[But the real match of the round is on at the Mossman Showgrounds.....[/

Bomber, wait until you get a go at your ref for Saturday. B. Dunster. He is hopeless in U18's let alone A grade. Blows a 1000 penalties each game and stops another 1000 times to talk to players. Overweight and overpaid. Good luck  :?

Sounds no different to me really.

The local paper has broken the news that this will be Aaron Port's final game, after 10+ years on the wing for the Sharks. Hope he caps it off with yet another try....
