He may have a better footy brain in his noggin but still does not make up for the fact he has never done any meaningful time as a club coaches assistant. Agree wholeheartedly. We are in a bit of a bind though. With rumours Dessie is being courted by Manly or potentially staying with the Dogs, Cleary apparently rejecting us, there is a distinct lack of available quality, experienced coaches. The club has a stench about it that is not making it a desirable place for coaches to come and work.

As a Panthers fan I feel your pain.

We used to be run like shit, our fans would squabble over which reserve grade superstar should play in the halves 1 week out from the season start. Dire times indeed.

You must be holding onto McGregor just to save some cash. Maybe sacking him will give your team a 'second wind' and you'll string a few wins together. 2017 hasn't even begun yet.

As for a caretaker, I'd be making a big play for Hasler to get him there this year. Particularly if the dogs get off to the poor start this year. If rumours are true and he might sign for 2018 then why waste time? Who knows...maybe the dogs are stupid enough to trade Hasler for McGregor! You can dream...

This club needs a complete ban on rookie coaches - we sadly don't have the fabric and culture anymore in the front office that is required to blood a talented young coach.

It only worked for us historically because we had the most amazing front office in the history of sports administration anywhere in the world and extremely talented rookie coaches available to make that work.

I want to see us revert to the reverse and get an old hand. We have a great junior nursery. We have seen the reverse work well for our club - Gibson (so close in 71), old fox harry bath who takes his babes to 2 premierships, Roy masters, Brian smith who did extremely well and outperformed given his roster in the 90s (despite not getting the grail) and then Bennett of course in 2010.

We haven't had rookies work since the 60s -when the likes of talent like Kearney and Provan stepped up to coach (captain coach mind you) they had the infrastructure and players to make it work.

Since then Craig Young, Brown, price and McMoron all dismal failures - maybe I also missed a few other rookies.

Indeed. We may just not have a choice with the clubs management the way it is. Simply put, the club lack the funds to attract a quality coach and also run a professional football department with modern equipment and facilities.

We lack any funds because they squandered it all away, some facts on our underperforming Board:
1. we were the richest club in the 1960s;
2. they let the leagues club fall away into decay (it was once called the Taj)
3. Facer had the cash and financing and planned to buy all the land around Barton park and to build our own ground there with commercial and residential apartments but sadly he became ill and after he lost his leg the project stalled and then the board had it stopped. His goal was to make us financially secure and less reliant on the leagues club and council ground.
4. They wasted all the up front JV monies and should never have merged without a much richer deal from the NRL with longer term financial commitments that secured the JV
5. They do not allow independent board members to be appointed nor challenge for a seat
6, the JV voting structure is fractured
7. Wollongong side is a major financial drain and adds nothing but the nursery which we had access paths to anyway
8. The Board retains a CEO who is a bumbling fool and who has no idea financially - we need a business and financially savvy CEO with CFO style skills to navigate out of this financial mess

Lots of stand alone clubs have outperformed us both on and off the field like Manly and Canterbury.

Time our Board stepped aside.

Good luck with the Board standing aside.
As much as Doust and the board should stand down, it will never happen.
After all they set the system in place,so that it makes it near impossible for them to be voted out.
Until there is a change in governance, or the club is sold.
We as fans have no say in the running of the club or its administration.
Basically the STGEORGE/ILLAWARRA RLFC is a dictatorship run by a team of SCAM artists.

What's wrong with Barrett ??? My choice would have been either Browny or Barrett from day 1 didnt happen then buts why not now .... they are one of ours, have gotten their experience and miles better than what we have.
