First bit of exciting news: Irish champions The Longhorns will be competing in the Challenge Cup next year! First time in 20 years an Irish team has been a part of it apparently.

So it looks like the non-English teams next year will be:
- Toronto
- Aberdeen
- Catalans
- Toulouse
- Longhorns

Any others?

Is this confirmed anywhere? Aberdeen won't be playing, they folded a few months ago.

Oh dear! I knew Scottish RL was on it's last legs but they seemed like the last glimmer of hope! That's horrible news!

Sorry I was just speculating based on the last couple of years.

Anyone know when the teams for next year get announced and/or when the round 1 draw will happen?

There should be a 16 team SL, through franchising, and only SL teams can compete in the C Cup. The final on the first Saturday of October. GF in Cardiff at the end of August.

Soooo you propose to make not only the top division a closed shop but also one of the oldest cup competitions with arguably the best looking trophy a closed shop too? How's this going to help grow the game again?

It's not a closed shop! You can get thrown out of SL and teams could be added to make it 18+, flippin eck mun. But Fev in SL? Lol, never should be allowed.

If you win your way into the league you deserve to be there. If you pay the admission price to get in its not the same.

Garbage. If you cant meet mininum standards for Super League (such as ground standard, governance etc) then a club should never be allowed to enter Super League until they can.

Unfortunately you would have to shrink the SL to meet those criteria currently. The game needs money right now, nor just a quick injection but steady cash flows. NA expansion is a big opportunity if done right and who knows eventually it might come to some firm of franchising but until then you earn your spot by on field performance.

Pretty interesting to see what the sport in the NH will look like in 10 years. Big shiny jewel or an old ass car being held together by bungee cords?

If rough travel plans (from Oz) pan out as preferred....I should be attending my 2nd Challenge Cup in 2018 ! Saw Hull win in a classic on 2016. Great day of footy socialising.

Ireland is a waste of time.... Its literally the only country that has shown positive growth in union in the last 7 years and the established unionites have absolutely 0 intention of letting league get a sniff.....
Concentrate on France...... It hurts me seeing how slow their growth is. And throw a few Eastern Euro teams in instead.

There is talk of Serbia's Red Star Belgrade looking to join league 1 in the future, think Serbia is the most advanced in terms of local competition in the developing Europe nations and it would be great to see them at the 2021 WC
