Chelsea v Man Utd

Chelsea can go back to the top of the table with a victory at Stamford Bridge tonight. In doing so they would go 9 points clear of Man Utd, a large gap when you considet the relentless consistency of both teams.

Whilst United have had a slow start to the season, they now have Ronaldo back and have drafted in Berbatov. AFter a loss at Anfield they will be stinging. I cannot remember the last time United lost 2 in a row in the Premiership.

Could this be the day when Chelsea's 85 game unbeaten run at Stamford bridge in the Premiership ends. I was watching when Arsenal beat us in February of 2004, and that was the last time we lost at home. Quite amazing a record which is surely in question tonight.

Chelsea Line up should be quite predictable. Stable back 4 with Bosingwa and A Cole pushing forward at times. Mikel screening behind Lampard and Deco. J Cole out right. Anelka to probably start up front. Only selection dilemmas would be between Malouda and Ballack for a midfield spot. Or perhaps with Vidic out Scolari might go for a the jugular and throw Drogba on from the start.

Kickoff 11pm. Cmon Blues!

Deco injured in warm-up, can't be good for Chelski.

We have Tevez, Ronaldo and Giggs on the bench, not bad..

1 - 1 FT

We shouldn't have drawn, very soft goal that we conceded.

P.S. Bosnich is surely on par with Foster for stupid commentary. Can't stand the arrogant little sh*t.

Typical Chelsea performance.

Start off in a complete slumber. First 25 minutes we are second best all over the park. Conceed the wake up goal and then proceed to diminate the match and waste a hat full of chances. Normal service resumed.

Happy enough with the result. Keeps United at Bay and with just 1 win from 4 Premiership games. Dissapointed at certain individuals. Joe Cole and Anelka particularly wasted easy chances, unforgivable for experienced players.

We seem to play better on the road. The home streak goes on but we seem to draw at the Bridge more then win there these days. At times we looked to be lacking quality up front and some guile to unlock the door. Bringing in someone like Robinho in would of been ideal but we botched that one up. Drogba is still not fit, and with Essiesn out for 6 months and now Deco and Carvalho injured there are some issues.

Cole, Anelka and Lampard were all ordinary, with the first two, as you said, missing great chances. Anelka's one in particular was a shocker. Couldn't really pick a best player from chelsea, no one really stood out although i thought Alex did a good job coming on to replace Carvalho. It will be interesting to see as to how costly it was for Chelsea in failing to get Robinho was.

That was gold, only Rio will know what Rio was thinking at the time. Maybe he though he had given away a foul?

What a petulant display by Man U.

Kicking ankles, arguing with the officials, ronaldo diving without contact.

Chelsea were the better side and deserved the point.

Anelka was dreadful.....

United fined after yellow fever
From correspondents in London, England
September 23, 2008
MANCHESTER United will be fined £25,000 ($54,000) after receiving seven yellow cards in their 1-1 draw away to Chelsea on Sunday but will face no other disciplinary action.

Sir Alex Ferguson, the champions' manager, insisted there hadn't been a bad tackle in the match against their perennial Barclays Premier League rivals although, come the final whistle, there was a clash between United's Rio Ferdinand and Chelsea's Didier Drogba which left the forward needing attention.

However, referee Mike Riley's match report has indicated the official does not believe there are any incidents that require further action, leaving United's fine by the Football Association as their only punishment.

"It was a competitive game but I did not think there was one bad tackle in it," said Ferguson of the 1-1 draw.

Riley's performance may have left Ferguson fuming in a match where United took the lead through Park Ji-Sung before Salomon Kalou equalised 10 minutes from time.

But Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari was more sympathetic.

"If players do not respect him, it should be yellow and red cards. It doesn't matter who you are - Liverpool or Manchester United, whoever."

Nevertheless the Blues boss was bemused by Riley blowing for full-time when Drogba was about to receive treatment.

"It was strange that he finished the game at that time but we need to accept his decision."

it happens in every game, maybe not 7 yellows, but how old whiskey face could make such a stupid comment is beyond me

what's wrong with admitting some of his players got it wrong ?
