China ships troops to Djibouti to set up first overseas base

    This is an interesting move by China. Not so much because of the location, half the world is already there, but this is their first overseas base. The questions are why do they want an overseas military base and why now?

    China's projecting a mighty big whack of soft power into Africa through investment and development, I'd say a military base is the least of what they are doing there to advance their interests.
