Now that it's gone people are critizing the fact that it's gone. But imo city/origin could no longer keep going on the way it was. It was no longer an origin trial, players pulled out and it was never full strength. And you'd get older guys seemingly getting their token rep jumper shortly before retirement. With state of Origin moving to a stand alone weekend (for one game at least) i propose we change the eligibility for the game to strictly players under 25 who have yet to play origin. Surely players who have yet played origin would jump at the chance. City Country is wasted on guys like James Tamou who has already shown us what he has at origin level. If a guy is over 25 surely he has had enough chances to prove himself in the past. A 26 year old should at least have a few finals games under his belt. There will still be players picked without much nrl experience, maybe a player or 2 from reserve grade and some players ( for example in a suggested team below i have adam clydesdale for country) will never get close to origin, but that's how city country was anyway. Instead of being a quasi selection trial/ development game/ exhibition the game can become a straight development game. Use it as a guide for the future, which players can adapt to new game plans in a short week with new players.
