Jackson was mainly on the right last year. He played on the left this year to allow Williams to develop on the right but has switched from time to time. Not sure about Cordner, I think he has played in all different positions but playing on the left for NSW U20s makes me believe he prefers the left.

It'll be Cordner left, Merrin middle, Jackson right.

Aye, I was just pointing out Jackson appears to be an edge specialist where as Cordner predominately plays tight.

I completely forgot about Merrin, my bad aqua, too many cram sessions I think.

Cordner plays on the edges and in the middle equally well, he's been switching between the two ever since he made it into grade. To answer your question, yes since FPN's injury he has been playing in the mdidle although he started the season off on the fringes.

His selection really had no bearing on Fensom though, it's amazing how people (not directed at you) can watch so much football and still not grasp the concept that just because they're supposed to pack down into the scrum together that 'backrowers' don't share the same roles. The roles of Locks & second rowers are so vastly different these days.

I have been the biggest fan of the City v Country fixture & up until now & strongly believed it had its place. Sadly, with quality players being 'unavailable' & guys that struggle to hold their spot in their NRL team, being selected - now makes this game a fri$#gen joke!!

Why bother?? The NSW selectors & coaching staff take no notice, the players & NRL coaches knowing this, show zero interest. And we end up with a nothing game to watch.

I believe this game should be the real selection trial for Origin, with best man on the day, showing why they deserve to wear the sky blue. This is the only opportunity to put players head-to-head & see how they perform on a slightly bigger stage. For me it takes all the speculation & media hype around players out of the way & brings it back to just form.

I would have loved to see City/Country 1st's & 2nd's brought back to life, where the Country 2nd's team was picked only from CRL players. Giving the 'bolter from the bush' a chance to play Origin - ala Paul Field 1983.

A Country boy who still wears his '91 CRL jersey each week.

If Fensom was a QLDer he'd already have 3 SOO games under his belt. He cant even get a gig in this mickey mouse City Country game. Good grief

Why do Raiders fans always use this blatantly bullshit line?

Said the same thing about Alan Tongue ffs.

I feel the same mate. It is an absolute crying shame that this game has decended into a match for also rans and jumper fillers. Back in the day it was a real and heartfelt contest

Good point.

I thought last year's wasnt too bad, a Sunday alvo a Mudgee and there was a bit of hype about this game as I recall.

Now, with all these players somehow pulling out with injury and the only mention of the game is how it should be removed.

What a joke??

The last time it was considered an Origin trial was probably 1997 the last year before they axed it, and even though everyone was available in 2003, the NSW selectors still picked players that didnt even play in the match.

I feel sorry for the people in the bush who look forward to this match. Expecting the obvious to be unavailable Gallen, Lewis, Morris twins, Bird, but at least an opportunity to see the other NSW Origin players and possible future Origin players.

Unfortunately teams are left with some "last men standing".

Anyway hope its a good game, it will be interesting to see how Reynolds, Cordner and Tariq Sims go.

Yes, in the middle of the park, where they picked Trent Merrin, not Boyd Cordner...

Cordner has done 2 5ths of 5 8ths of f**k all this year, fensom has been putting in the same performances for the last 3 years.

Cordner's game against the Dogs was better than Fenson has produced, end of story. Lets not mention the fact that Merrin has been the form lock for NSW this season and plays where Fenson does..and most importantly like Dallas Johnson, Fensom is useless if he doesn't start!

How many times has cordner cracked 100 metres and made 40+ tackles in a game this year???

Fensom has hit under that once in any game this year, and despite RHCP stating that the back row and lock are different positions, if that effort isn't enough to warrant selection in a mickey mouse game then what is?
