Coaching appointments have been confirmed for the Vodafone Warriors’ Intrust Super Premiership and NYC teams for the 2017 season.

Ricky Henry takes charge of the ISP team following Stacey Jones’ appointment as one of the club’s NRL assistant coaches.

Henry, one of Jones’ assistant coaches for the 2016 ISP campaign, has a long history with the Vodafone Warriors stretching back to development roles he held from 2008-2012. He coached the Auckland Vulcans in the New South Wales Cup in 2012 before having a stint as a Vodafone Warriors NRL assistant coach in 2013-2014.

Joining Henry (38) in the ISP assistant coach’s position is former Vodafone Warrior Jerome Ropati.

Ropati (31), who played 145 NRL games for the club before retiring in 2014, will combine his new ISP coaching role with his work as a Vodafone Warriors community ambassador.

Stepping into the NYC team’s coaching position is Grant Pocklington, who guided the Point Chevalier Pirates to three consecutive Fox Memorial titles in the Auckland competition in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Pocklington was on Jones’ ISP coaching staff this year and was also assistant coach for the Kiwi Ferns for their three-match campaign against the Jillaroos at the Downer NRL Auckland Nines in February and the Anzac Test against Australia in May.

Continuing as the NYC team’s assistant coach is former Vodafone Warrior Boycie Nelson.

Hot off Channel 9 news Des Hasler set to quit Bulldogs tomorrow because of clause stating he can be sacked if they fail to make the top8 or 4.

Frankly, I would have loved to have seen Dessie at the Warriors....not quite sure though, how some of the Prima Donnas there would respond to his fairly direct style.

Our coach was a dead man walking while Des had the Dogs running in the 4. He was never really available to us at all, so it's not worth worrying about whether he would've worked/could've worked if we'd approached him.

And the Dogs are having a laugh, two years without finals appearances then Des turns up and gets them to finals in all four years including two GFs. Former greats like Steve Mortimer potting him, saying he doesn't understand the culture of the club...horse shit and disrespectful to what Des has achieved.

ISP and Under 20's not really important to me personally. All I care about is 1st Grade. We won a few NYC competitions and to me it became the worst thing for our 1st Grade team by having some young players believing they can just strut the same BS in 1st grade. Our focus should always be the top grade nothing else.

Completely disagree.
We have great junior strength but without good coaching they won't improve or they will move overseas.
Also, without strength in ISP grade, there is no competition in first grade.
When was the last time we saw an underperforming first grader dropped to reserves? (Besides Konnie!)

Rich has it right, without a good coach at 20s level these guys will turn up raw and not near ready in the first grade squad. I don't give a monkey's about our 20s results but I do care that these guys are coached to show improvement in task-related stuff - ie tackling percentages, set completion, basic skills (which sorely lack in our FG squad), field kicking etc. In fact I'd love it if our club came out and said we don't value the meaningless pursuit of trophies and success at any grade below the NRL, we value making every player in that system better and giving them the best opportunity to become first-graders and good ones at that.
