Super League side Salford Red Devils have signed Manly Sea Eagles pair Luke Burgess and Feleti Mateo on deals until the end of the season.

Burgess, 29, is the brother of cross-code England international Sam and started his career at Leeds Rhinos.

Tonga international Mateo, 32, has also played for New Zealand Warriors, Parramatta Eels and London Broncos.

"We are bringing in a couple of great players as insurance," said director of rugby Tim Sheens.

"You can't risk going into the Super 8s and picking up a couple of injuries and finding yourself relegated."

Good to see them further their careers overseas...not close to the Eagles top 17, free up some coin for 2017

Mateo is one of the most disappointing players I've ever seen. Could have literally been anything with his size and skill set, but he chose to be an overweight, lazy slug.

He was on very good money, and if you believe those who have contacts within the Warriors we were still paying a dumb amount of it for him to play for Manly.

Leigh Centurions have continued their ambitious recruitment with the capture of Australian outside back Mitch Brown from NRL leaders Cronulla.

The 28-year-old will join the Championship club in time for the start of the Super 8s Qualifiers next month and has agreed a contract that runs to the end of 2018.
