Gus Gould has suggested on his podcast that he will doubt Cooper Cronk will play again after this year. WOW!

Cooper Cronk said this on NRL 360 tonight - “I’ve got no interest in taking offers or looking at offers or even considering offers from Sydney any time soon, and I’m talking over a couple of months period, because I actually don’t know if I want to play on next year,” Cronk said.

If Cronk has no interest in taking offers or looking at offers and might not play next year....why did he announce this NOW? If he was thinking of hanging them up next year or has no real motivation for a Sydney Club contract, he could keep it to himself until the end of the season, either pre a GF or the final series. That would minimise disruption to the team and club and minimise the distraction in the media. THAT would be the sensible decision.

However Cooper is no idiot. He has announced this NOW because he sees the Moses/Brooks fiasco reaching its natural crescendo with the signing of Cleary, plus Jack Bird et al nearing completion as the pieces come together. If he waits any longer all the money and cap spaces will be allocated.

He is announcing this PRECISELY now (a day after Cleary announcement) as a precision strategic strike. Tells everyone he is available (but really casual about it) so the clubland knows he is available and he will be factored in.

You think that your halfback for the last 10 years and one of the couple of top players can just quit and the end of the season and that would be least disruption for the club?

Announcing now allows Melbourne to plan for next year be that re-sign younger players or go on the market, who would they sign if they only had a couple of months notice?

More likely he is announcing it now to give the Storm time to find the right replacement

Smart thing for the Storm to do is give him an immediate release.

Once they decide to leave, team goes down.

Sharks are a special this weekend. Get on!

Yeah Ronnie Gibbs announcement in 1987 mid-season that he was going to play for Gold Coast in 1988 really hurt his form and that of Manly eh?

He probably has no intention of playing on. Just did it as his final gift for the storm, by disrupting every Sydney team and their halves for the rest of the year.

I think people are hugely overrating her looks.
She's cute but has a f**ked up chin.

My heart says he'll retire 'cos playing against Bellamy, Slater & Smith would be a hard task for him in a jersey other than purple.
But my head says he will play on for 3yrs more at a club he feels have Finals written in their future.
Can't really knock him if he wants to play on, but I'd rather see him retire a one-club player & do a media gig at FoxSports seeing as he's a natural at it already the few spots he's done previously
