Always care about a foundation club in trouble

Balmain Tigers Statement
Mar 31, 2016 | By Tigers

BALMAIN TIGERS SHAREHOLDING OF WESTS TIGERS – NEGOTIATIONS EXTENDED

Negotiations related to the restructure of the Wests Tigers NRL club have been extended by one month.
Constructive discussions are continuing between the NRL, Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers RLFC over the future structure of the entity.
As a result, the deadline for Balmain Tigers to repay a $5.4 million debt to the NRL has been extended until 30 April 2016.
Thank you to all of our members for your continued support. We hope to be in a position to give you a further update soon.

Has anyone here been to Balmain in the last 10 years? I grew up and have lived in Balmain for 37 years. Balmain DOES NOT DESERVE A TEAM. Yes there are a good amount of solid passionate supporters but there are more bandwagon jumping f.ckwits with no passion whatsoever....
We made our decision years ago when we didn't boycott the NRL. Souths had passion!!!! And boycotted for a year. Now look at them. We bent over and took it... Now look at us.
How black and white is it... Mergers don't work, Balmain doesn't deserve a team.
Laurie Nichols is a legend
And Wayne Pearce Hill is overdue... Congrats Wayne. A true legend.

After the ANZ redevelopment, WTs really need to end games at Leichhardt and commit to Homebush/SW...

Itll be past 2020 by then and Leichhardt doesnt have a great prospect of getting new funding. The travel from Balmain to Homebush is not unreasonable and that isnt even taking into account that WTs support is spread right across Sydney.

Leichhardt has a lot of nostalgia attached to it, but if WTs want to remain competitive they really need to move forward and market themselves towards more than just a small, difficult to access suburb...

Edit: it might even be an idea worth considering to get set up base in this NSWRL hq being developed in Homebush (at least until this CoE comes through in the Liverpool-ish area)

Balmain Tigers’ future secured with funding agreement with NRL and Western Suburbs
April 18, 2016 4:26pm
Phil Rothfield Sports Editor-at-LargeThe Daily Telegraph

The future of foundation club the Balmain Tigers has been secured under a new funding agreement soon to be finalised with the NRL and Western Suburbs Magpies.

Under the new arrangements, Balmain will hold onto a 25 per cent share of the Wests Tigers joint venture with seats on a revamped board of directors.

Western Suburbs will pay the NRL $2.5 million of Balmain’s $5 million debt and take a 75 per cent ownership of the joint venture.

The final make-up of the board will be determined later in the season although the Magpies will have a majority on the board to match the shareholding.

The future of the independents, including chairperson Marino Go, will be addressed later in the season. Some will have to go under the new structure to allow Balmain to get two votes back.

Wests would also want to appoint their own chairman.

Balmain officials are still in talks with NRL accountants over the $2.5 million they will owe once Western Suburbs has chipped in with half the amount owed to the NRL.

It is likely they will be granted a three-year extension to pay the money back once the future of the Victoria Road development site in Rozelle has been settled.

Western Suburbs officials had the opportunity — and funds — to take complete ownership of the Wests Tigers but always wanted Balmain to stay involved and to play future games at Leichhardt Oval.

Good to see the Western Suburbs organisation is a damn side classier than a lot of their fans here.

Chumpion, what would you know about class. Your interest is in ass.

speaking of ass though, it's a shame the magpies bent over and took it up the ass by the nrl, and then when they had a chance of returning, they chose not to. how stupid and weak are the magpies leadership! wow! that's definitely not a club that represents my thinking! it's a shame the magpies didn't/don't have a strong and never say die leadership like the mighty bunnies

Your multicoloured turncoat tears are delicious.

We live. We survive. We fight. We endure.

And that's a far more rewarding success than you will ever know.

It's not a shirt we change like you.

It's in our spine. You can't change that - but when it comes to you, you can't change what you don't have.

Never say die as in selling themselves to the highest bidder?

but it's still souths. still the same club. crowe and packer are just part owners of it (meaning putting money into the club if needed). i won't say no to a millionaire and billionaire who are willing to do that!

you would think so. i think there are too many balmain sympathizers at wests ashfield which is why people like me need to vote them out of power, or maybe they are pretending to be sympathizers and are just biding their time..

and a campbelltown based magpies team would be able to play in the nsw cup and be a feeder for a perth based western magpies.

oh why do you have to get my hopes up! damn you, perth red!
(or should i say, perth magpie :) )

Don't stop believing...

When is the next election at Ashfield?

In the meantime you will have to keep pretending to go for Souffs...
