Had a slow start Panthers lead 8-0 early till Gillard scored in the corner with 10 seconds to go that was a big plus right on ht made it 8-6.

Garrick unlucky not to score earlier.

Camped on the Pennies line early in the second half decided to take the two made it 8-8.

Marsters powered his way over in the corner to make it 12-8.

Forced a few errors from the Pennies then a silly tackle on the kicker and the Pennis hit the lead 14-12.

Lomax made a clean break setting up Marsters for his second with lomax converting to make it 18-14.

a few earrors and some penalties but played tough and didn't give to much away a good result and thats 3 wins against the second placed pennies this year.

    Nice report, cheers coast.

Sounds like they really hung tough to earn the win.

Marsters and Lomax stepping up is promising for the future...

Young Dragons march on to NYC preliminary finals

The Dragons have secured a spot in the Holden Cup preliminary finals after they outlasted Penrith 18-14 in a thrilling encounter at Allianz Stadium.

St George Illawarra had all the early running but it was the Panthers who grabbed the first points of the evening when Red V winger Steven Marsters sensed he was going into touch and hurled an offload back in-field that Dean Blore intercepted and raced away to score after 12 minutes.

Momentum was suddenly with the mountain men who moved further in front when late inclusion Jamon Wormleaton strolled through some flimsy defence to score a simple try in the left corner.

The Panthers looked certain to take an 8-0 lead into the sheds until Dragons winger Jason Gillard scooped up a loose ball in the dying seconds of the first half to cut the gap to two points at the break after Zac Lomax nailed the sideline conversion.

The change of ends worked wonders for the Dragons who levelled things up via a Lomax penalty goal and then hit the lead for the first time when Marsters atoned for his earlier error with a classy finish out wide.

St George Illawarra's lead didn't last long when Sam Martin-Savage danced through the defensive line to score a sensational solo try to make it 14-12 with 16 minutes left on the clock.

The roller-coaster ride took another massive twist when Lomax poked his nose through the line and popped a pass out the back that dribbled past the defence and straight into the arms of Marsters who touched down before Lomax slotted another clutch conversion to give the Red V an 18-14 lead.

The Panthers had their chances in the dying moments when Reed Izzard was somehow held up over the line before Jesse Abbott dummied when he should have passed to his unmarked winger.

There was time for one last bit of drama when Panthers star Wayde Egan was held up centimetres short of the line and were then awarded a penalty as the siren sounded but they couldn't make it count as the Dragons held on to advance to Week Three of the finals.

Dragons 18 (Steven Marsters 2, Jason Gillard tries; Zac Lomax 3 goals) defeated Panthers 14 (Dean Blore, Jamon Wormleaton, Sam Martin-Savage tries; Dean Blore 1 goal) at Allianz Stadium. Half-time: 8-6 Panthers.

I took D-83's tip and put the game on this morning.
But only saw the final 30 mins or so.

The dragon's D, after they went ahead 18-14, was absolutely outstanding.
Out NRL squad should take a look at that!!

I loved the passion shown by Jackson Willis.
I hope he makes it through to firsts.
Mix that passion with that of James Graham and we are unstoppable.

    Great work lads.
    You've got me inspired again.

Always remember an old drunk who played for 15 years longer than he should have, had a customary scream of "guts, guts, guts" each and every time we ran out of the sheds, which whenever I think off it sounded so uncouth and primitive, but even so IMO is the single most important trait for any footballer and/or team...and something that JG should bring in bucket loads

The Club seems to have much better acumen in appointing NSW Cup and Under 20's coaches thst make the Finsl 8 than in their appointment of successful NRL coaches.

Yes I understand that there are less teams in ISP but Millward screwed up by releasing Sironen and Wakeman at the end of 2016 and then Lewis, Nona and Masoe mid 2017 on top of the injuries to Dodd, Glymin, Hutchison and Jurd plus Mc Gregor not releasing NRL players on standby.

Plus Millward let go Tom Carr who played for the Dogs and scored a try for them causing our recent exit from the Finals. What do you think Coast and Dragonslayer?

ISP will restructured next year and will be the lead game prior to 1st grade. Thete is also talk of adding a team from Fiji.
Im not sure how a Dragons V Cows game would have a lead in game of Illawarra V Townsville Blackhawks would work for example and it involve mixing QCup and NSW Cup teams.
I did read that teams would have to align themselves with an NRL team eg Dragons and Illawarra, Raiders and Mounties so in reality some that are non-aligned such as maybe Nth Syd Bears may just play a state league.
As we know Qld only has 3 teams in NRL plus Melb and their Q Cup has 12 or so teams as well. I dont know what will happen to those who are non-aligned.
Anyway, after the GF I'm sure we will get a truck load of info and how the structure will be.
One thing we do know is that U20's will only be state league from next year.
