Expansion won't happen anytime soon

Wests Tigers are probably in the most danger with the Balmain half of the merger now virtually gone and hardly anybody turns up to Campbelltown when the Tigers do play there.

I do like the idea of the Dragons moving to the Gong fulltime as their side is virtually an Illawarra Steelers in St George jerseys anyway.

When Balmain go broke and the NRL finally have enough, Western Suburbs will re-emerge from the ashes and take the full control in name and logo etc thus bringing back the crowds.

Wollongong Dragons as a rebrand. Give them one game a year at the Kogarah dump to appease the St George flogs.

Relocate Canterbury to Adelaide because we don't want them in Sydney anymore.

Put Parramatta in Perth so we can't hear their asinine dribble.

You made sense until you went on about relocating Canterbury and Parramatta.

You must have a job with the Western Sydney Wanderers to come up with that.

Canterbury is probably the richest Sydney club in the competition and has a massive fanbase to go with it, Parramatta are the same despite their recent off field problems.

Removing those two will be an instant free pass for the Western Sydney Wanderers to further take over Western Sydney.

If the Dragons rebrand they should just drop the St George out of the name and just be called Illawarra Dragons.

The Tigers should become the Western Suburbs Magpies anyway.

The old Balmain area is now a hotbed for soccer, most people in Leichhardt don't give a shit about league.

Build a 25k stadium in Liverpool and relocate Wests.

Why do that when you have a decent stadium at Campbelltown that holds 22k? They could easily re-develop that (put a grandstand at the end of the ground near the athletics track and place in a permanent scoreboard). Boost the capacity.

Please. You have Penrith and Wests who would take massive inroads against soccer. It's dying in the ass when push comes to shove. Canterbury have name value and brand recognition that can be amazing to Adelaide, as opposed to starting the Rams again. Parramatta haven't achieved squat for 31 years and could take brand recognition to Perth where this isn't the constant media pressure.

You have very low standards...

And youre delusional if you think ANYONE will put in money to fix up that place.

So all those fans who packed out Leichhardt 5 years or so ago have went over to Soccer

The Tigers got the highest crowd average of any Sydney team last year, and looking at the Draw this year, Channel 9 wants to show them on TV every week..

Imagine how popular they would be if they were actually any good on the field?

Don't think they are going anywhere...

Had a bit of a chat with Gus on twitter and he was hands-over-ears-la-la-la utterly against expansion. Possibly the most insular person in Rugby League.
I think you'll find Gould is strongly in favour of a second Brisbane franchise.

He changes his mind weekly depending on panthers bottom line projections

Gould believes the game must first solve the financial issues plaguing the game before considering expansion and has urged the NRL to do some in-depth investigation and not rely on a consortium to influence their decision.

Phil Gould recently slammed the NRL in his Sun Herald column on the 8th of August this year, claiming the NRL lacked vision and had no business plan for the future development of the game.
http://leagueunlimited.com/news/a-crushing-blow-nrl-say-no-to-expansion

Johnson had earlier texted the QT that "Gus (Gould) wants to keep an NYC competition that has proven to…fail development. Gus and his Sydney-centric cohorts clamour lack of talent for expansion but he thinks we have enough talent for an extra grade!!!"

He might that Brisbane should be the next place the sport "expands" (laughable as that is) to when it does, but he doesn't believe the comp should expand now, as far as I can tell

Sounds reasonable enough to me. A RL heartland town of over 2 million with only one NRL team.

If Balmain go down the shitter, I wonder what the future would be for Wests.

Balmain provided the vast majority of the fans for the JV but Wests have plenty of coin. It would happen never happen but a Western Suburbs Panthers "super club" would be amazing. 8 games at Penrith, 4 at Campbelltown with revenue coming from 3 huge licensed clubs.

The Tigers brand could move to Perth and play a game per year at Leichhardt.

As usual, the expansion forum takes me on a journey beyond possible realities.

The NRL won't let the South West become a vacuum for fumble ball etc.A fast growing young area.

Penrith and Campbelltown are 50kms apart...

Also, not sure why Wests Ashfield who now own 75% of the Wests Tigers would be interested in becoming Phil Gould's biatch...

Yes. Reasons why I twice stated why it wouldn't happen or was not possible.

The expansion forum is typically about half focused on pie-in-the-sky thinking-out-loud type stuff and half on pragmatic approaches to expansion. Don't let pedantry muddy the water. No one is advocating for a Wests-Penrith merger.

The first thing that should be done is move the Dragons to Wollongong and the Tigers to Campbeltown full time. They can still play a game at Leicardt/Kograh but this clubs badly need a stable home and a identity.
