THE Vodafone Junior Fiji Bati remains unbeaten on their Australia tour after the side were held to a 32-all draw by the Canberra Raiders in their second match on Thursday.

The side earlier defeated ACT 24-14 in its first match.

Fiji Secondary School Rugby League official Laisiasa Corerega said the players displayed good rugby league skills.

"The players were excited in the opening 10 minutes of the match, but afterwards the skills learnt during training were executed well by the players," he said from Australia.

"We need to continue with the good work on our defence and play more structured rugby league.

"The players have to improve on delaying the ball and also kick the ball straight when the team is given penalties."

Fiji's tries were scored by Maika Bale and Jonathan Vucago of Natabua High School, Samu Tamani of Queen Victoria School, Solomone Naiduki of Ratu Kadavulevu School and Viliame Vuloko from Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute while Alekisa Caginitoba was the kicker for the side.

"We will play two more major NRL development teams in the Newcastle Knights and Canterbury Bulldogs," he said.

"The match was played at a fast pace and there were some bone crunching tackles from Junior Bati. We also played under 10 degrees Celsius."

The side will play Newcastle Knights on Monday.

Tours like this are really encouraging, the more International junior RL the better.

Hopefully these NRL clubs are taking notice from a recruitment point of view. Of course it would be great if these players had a higher level to advance to locally, like geez, I dunno, a Fiji NSW Cup team?...

Five Fiji U18 team scouted

It was also confirmed by Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League official Lai Corerega that five Fiji U18 players had been named by Raiders scouts.

This was after they played the Raiders Development team where they drew 32-32.

“After our first game of the Australia tour, officials from Canberra Raiders wanted five of our players.

“We will disclose the names once all the paper work has been done. We will have talks with their parents and getting all documents in order,” Corerega said.

Meanwhile, the Fijian U18 team ended their tour on a high note after winning their final two games in Sydney.

The Fijians defeated Bulldogs Development 18-14 and the Australian Fijian Schoolboys 22-10.

“It was a successful Aussie tour and we want to thank the families, friends, schools and the Fiji National Rugby League for their support,” Corerega said.

Illustrates a point I've been trying to make for a while, that a refular and comprehensive International junior program is up there with the best investment the RLIF could make.

Sending them to NRL clubs and playing against Matthews, Ball and other development squads is ideal. That's exactly how you make an NRL club notice. If a Fijian kid stands out against your own best juniors it's a no brainer to sign them up. And in this case, when they're starting at Canberra and then going to other NRL clubs, it puts a fire under Canberra to sign them up before someone else sees them.

On a related matter, this is pretty cool too.

Played RL as a junior. Hopefully he makes the transition and plays in the WC.

Yep this is what some of the union knockers don't get.Because rl is getting into schools in Fiji, many of these kids have a rl background. It's now not a union only one way street.Petero C has been one of the big movers getting the game whistling along there.
