All teams who make top 8 deserve atleast a 7 day break leading up to their finals fixture or atleast equal amount of break as their opposition

Brisbane no matter who they play, Penrith/Titans/Tigers should play on a Sunday afternoon. Hopefully common sense prevails

According to Foxsports it's:

Friday: 1 v 4 (E.g. Storm/Cows)
Saturday: 5 v 8 followed by 2 v 3 (E.g. Broncs/Titans & Raiders/Sharks)
Sunday: 6 v 7 (E.g. Bulldogs/Penrith)

I would've thought playing Storm on Sunday at AAMI would be ideal given there's no AFL finals on at all

According to who at Fox?

There is no set order. It's fully at the discretion of the NRL, and has been for a couple of years now.

Because 2/3 of those teams would have less than 4 days preparation, including taking a day off for travel etc so technically 3 days of preparation

Not to mention Sunday would be an ideal timeslot for Tv audience and a 50k crowd which the NRL would love. Friday night would barely crack 40k imo

Anyway think it's made up after the final 8 is clear

NRL surrendered home-ground advantage to AFL over finals at ANZ Stadium

Roy Masters

The NRL concede they agreed some weeks ago to vacate ANZ stadium should the Swans meet the Giants in the first weekend of AFL finals.

This is despite the Herald being told by the NRL over the weekend: "We expect to have priority for ANZ, given Dogs and NRL are partners of ANZ stadium. Sounds like AFL are going to move to the SCG anyhow. But we are just pushing along with as normal with our finals plans."

But this wouldn't have suited the AFL, which has invested over $100m in the Homebush-based Giants.

So, the minor premiership-winning Swans have to vacate their home ground, the SCG, to play a match against the fourth-placed Giants at ANZ, only a short walk from Spotless Stadium, the Giants' base.

"The AFL expect to get 70,000 to 80,000 out there at Homebush," the NRL spokesman said.

Asked why the NRL had given in to its rival when the Bulldogs had priority, the spokesman admitted NRL Central did not expect the all-Sydney AFL clash to eventuate.

"We spoke to them a few weeks ago and said that the Saturday was OK if the circumstances arose," he said.

The Bulldogs will be doubly punished if the results in the final NRL round see them forced to play on a Sunday, with star fullback Will Hopoate refusing to play on the Sabbath.

This is unlikely, given the Broncos have already been pencilled in for a Sunday home game, possibly against the Titans or Wests Tigers, given they can't play at Suncorp on the Saturday night because the Wallabies will be playing South Africa.

Rugby league, therefore, has been bumped off two home grounds by rival codes, should results go as the NRL anticipates.

An NRL spokesman insisted the semi-final scheduling, including Melbourne and Cronulla hosting home finals, possibly against the Cowboys and Raiders respectively, had not been locked in because "We don't know what the final order of teams will be."

The usual NRL protocol is for team 1 to play team 4 on the Friday night; teams 2 v 3 and 6 v 7 to play on Saturday, with 5 v 8 on Sunday.

Lol so to me that says 'the NRL will do everything possible to ensure the Bulldogs don't play on Sunday so they can have Will Hopoate playing'

Just flip them around. Play 5v8 on Friday in Brisbane, 2v3 Saturday afternoon Syd/Canberra, 1v4 on Saturday night in Melbourne, 6v7 on Sunday afternoon.

I would have thought Saturday arvo game would have gone close to selling out. Think you're right though re: finishing spots & days already scheduled.

Could easily write an article about how the AFL have no games this week and it's a free kick to the final week of the NRL, which is a hugely interesting and can change all positions in the top 8.

swings and roundabouts.

Incorrect. Friday night here is Hawthorn v Geelong so it would be ridiculous to schedule Storm at that time. Any other time should see a very good crowd.
Should be (assuming favourites win)
Friday: Bulldogs v Panthers
Saturday: Raiders v Sharks followed by Storm v Cowboys
Sunday: Broncos v Titans/Tigers

Agree.
Storm should benefit with another big crowd this week. With finals could top 20K four weeks in a row which would be awesome.

Interesting to note that this year, the AFL have swapped their Sunday finals match for Thursday night. The only reason I can think of is so there's an extra match in primetime. So, their week 1 finals distribution is 1 Thursday night, 1 Friday night, 1 Saturday arvo, 1 Saturday night match. I bring this point up as I don't know if the NRL follow suit with this in the next tv rights deal in 2018 (I hope not, but you never know).

Regarding the NRL week 1 finals distribution, Friday night will be either 1 vs 4 or 2 vs 3, having the marquee teams playing in that timeslot. Sunday will be either 5 vs 8 or 6 vs 7, with the winner of the elimination match playing the following Saturday night (6 day turnaround).

My opinion is that the NRL is going to wait until after the Cowboys/Titans match to make the announcement. If the Broncos finish in 5th of 6th, they will definitely be playing their home final on the Sunday, with any Bulldogs or Penrith home final being moved to Allianz on the Saturday night. If Cronulla finish in the top 2, they will play their home final at Allianz on Friday night. If Cronulla and Bulldogs/Penrith host finals at Allianz, I highly doubt it will be a double header on Saturday after the criticism it got when it was held in 2013.
