Fox League
journalists Pamela Whaley, Simon Brunsdon, John Dean, George Clarke and Mark St John tackle the biggest issues in the NRL this week.
Biggest reason - De Belin Saga.
Next - Widdop injury
Third - Graham injury.

"Clarke: The distraction of Jack de Belin’s ongoing court case can’t have helped, along with the long-term injuries to Gareth Widdop and James Graham. The Dragons had five Origin players called up for Origin in total. But that hasn’t affected their worrying form for better or for worse. Maybe the club should have delayed

Brunsdon: The spine has failed to click and there’s not a lot of strikepower in the outside backs.

Whaley: A whole lot of disruptions and by the looks of things, players trying to play for themselves rather than for the team. It seems as though there’s plenty of individual brilliance, but not much teamwork happening.

St John: Sometimes it just isn’t your year and the Dragons have had to deal with more than most this season on and off the field. Losing their chief playmaker and captain in Gareth Widdop placed a huge burden on the club’s leadership and point scoring departments. Jack de Belin was the glue that held the pack together. If the pack isn’t laying the platform even Origin players like Ben Hunt and Corey Norman can’t work their magic. The Dragons depth has been tested this season and they are short a couple of strike players out wide and in the pack.

Dean: The Jack de Belin situation has taken its toll on and off the field, while injuries have cruelled them for much of the year. De Belin’s absence can’t be underestimated. He brings line speed and brutal defence which the team has lacked — they concede the second most metres in the competition, while their latest loss to the Raiders now sees them as the worst defensive team. But you can’t pin poor results solely on De Belin’s standing down, or on the shoulder injury to Gareth Widdop. In Widdop’s case, he won’t be at the club next year so the current spine is what Dragons fans will get in 2020. The outside backs have seriously lacked cohesion or potency and the chopping and changing hasn’t produced an answer — I think they’re missing Nene Macdonald more than they thought. But something doesn’t seem right, especially after the way they played against the Raiders. With the finals door closing every week and playing at home, they had everything to play for, but they packed it in almost straight away. Looking more broadly, the Dragons have won just one finals game since their 2010 premiership and it’s simply not good enough. On paper, the team has more rep stars than most, but they’re underachieving and tough questions need to be asked of the coaching staff."

McGregor's name not mentioned even once.

I'll mention McGregor because he along with Millward are responsible for the majority of the problems at the Dragons. Of course it does not help that the SGI Board and CEO are answerable to the old boys club.

We need someone to come in and manage a complete clean out. This would be the only solution that could turn around SGI.

Jamie Soward does not miss him on Bill and Boz.

Few tweets read out from angry fans about Mary, Jamie does not stick up for him.

He is starting to get questioned on Fox anyways, "fans are blowing up" is the term I keep hearing.

Most give excuses, not Soward, always mentions another club with injuries winning.

What they didn't say ,the JOB thing goes a way to maybe explaining this year what explains our previous years failures even though we fell into the 8 a couple of times no only one common denominator MARY
Most times, good management/coaching can make smooth the bumpy road when unfortunate events occur. At SGI we just don't have the tools available and instead collapse in a heap. JDB is a very unfortunate affair however, our lack of action regarding replacement and the untimely extension of Mary's contract has spelt the decline of our NRL team in 2019.

The name of the journos says it all. Not real big names there and essentially rugby league savvy and report the obvious easy feel good tip top agendas they can comprehend... watching and listening to others report the same.
However just reading between the lines they dont have to say it....all roads lead to the coaching of the side and in part recruitment

Look the JDB thing happened in December. By March when the season kicked off..the Dragons were ready to play on field..they are not running out crying over JDB. I can tell you no team or rarely do a squad of 30 players all get on the same.
I did not hear or read the same long winded excuse when the Warriors lost Sunny Fai tragically in an off season back 10 years ago and struggled that year and had more reason too in my book

1 Norm Tipping : Guided Saints to a Premiership in 1956. Punted.
2 Jack Gibson : Legendary Coach. Failed to win 1971 GF. Not renewed. Went on to coach Newtown who rubbed us in 1973.
3 Craig Young : Club legend. Missed the semi's two years running with a less than stellar squad. Punted.
4 Nathan Brown : Nearly man, Had a rough 2007. Punted.
5 Steve Price : Out of his depth. Too much too soon. Punted.
6 Paul McGregor : Six year "career" marked by end of season or second-half fade-outs, half the squad plays for Origin, England or Australia but under Mary can't crack it for a win often enough to finish higher than 7th and we are looking down the barrel of out first wooden spoon since 1938.
And yet no-one on the board questions this Muppet's coaching credentials!?
You couldn't make this sh#t up.

It’s about time they started to ask some questions about the teams demise , we are guaranteed to lose more then we win (?) before the season is over , but unfortunately the media won’t give a rats asse as they will be preoccupied by the real teams of the competition who will be entering the semi-finals phase of the year - but not the Dragons as our Mary will be making big plans for another tilt at next seasons crown - and pigs can fly . :pig:

Heard the BS on nrl 360 from Hooper and was dumb founded. Not one person in the media has had the guts to ask why this clown was re-signed for 2 more years earlier in the season when there was no outside pressure on for him.

Mick, you would think they won't be able to ignore if we have some more bad losses ,. but the level of reporting even a game is based on running with one topic and no real analysis. We need some journos to stick their head up and report the facts ! It's staring them in the face if they are prepared to look.Jesus there is enough factual evidence on this site alone !

Deals were made and the old boys club delivered on those deals, it all has nothing to do with performance or the credibility or decisions made. Management cannot be held accountable under the current structure so nothing will change until there is a cleanout and tools put in place where members can hold management accountable.

Mary is set for the next two seasons and even if he is sacked the deal done ensures he gets his 1m+ in a golden handshake. Johnston is signed for at least the next two years and who knows what arrangement SGI have with Millward.

It appears that the scape goats will be Hornby and Young who will probably be replaced by Barrett and Head for 2020.

I read the free Telecrap in my local coffee shop yesterday. (No way I would pay for it). Kent certainly didn't hold back in his story on Brennan's demise, suggesting among many other things that he had a drinking problem and played favorites with team members ( sound vaguely familiar?)
