ebanon win Mediterranean Cup
Saturday, October 25, 2003
Lebanon won the Mediterranean Cup in Tripoli today, when they just edged out a strong French challenge to win 26-18
In a tightly contested game the Lebanese, led by former Australian Test star Hazem el Masri, led 14-2 at half-time, but the French had clased their way back to be behind by just two points, 20-18, with a minute to go, in front of 4,000 wildly enthusiastic supporters.
But the Lebanese sealed the game when the other el Masri brother, Wissam, scored the the winning try amid scenes of wild jubilation.
In the earlier game for third place in the tournament, Morocco defeated Serbia-Montenegro 58-4.
A full report from Tony Hannan will appear in Monday's Rugby Leaguer & League Express.
