Yep these guys need to stick to what they're good at. With time they will naturally adapt their games to suit what they learn about themselves, but trying to manufacture something in the short term is only going to stuff up their heads.
Warner has a wicked eye. He should be just blasting away. Yes he'll get plenty of low scores, but every so often he'll smash a 150 and win you a game. Gilly got out for plenty of low scores, but no one remembers those. We remember the World Cup final, or the 200 in SA. At the moment all it looks like Warner's doing is scratching around for 20 or 30 and getting out. That's no use to anyone.
Similar story for Hughes. He's an attacker. Yes the bowlers might pick him up cheaply a couple of innings in a row, but once he gets away from you he's one of those rare breed that can win a test in a session. We should be encouraging these guys to express themselves and put the pressure on the bowlers from the first ball. If it doesn't come off we have the Pontings, Husseys and Clarkes to follow and make it right. If it does come off the opposition is in a world of hurt.
