The initiatives aren't just a ploy to get kids to play league, over say union or soccer. It's about showing that rugby league is part of the community out west. We love our league. Its ingrained within the fabric of Penrith. Your kid plays league, his/her dream is to play for the Panthers one day. It's not about numbers, its about giving kids a platform to be part of something big.
And there lies the problem
Kids of 12-14 that are born later in the year are smaller. Let alone having the islander impact
Some kids just want to have fun - they know they wont be NRL stars as they missed Matts or development squads
But we cut them off
I say let them have fun again
Let these smaller built boys play League Tag on game day in junior club colours. Let junior football day outs be for everyone. Not just the elite 1sts of a junior club
Some kids like to compete - others just like run pass and kick a ball without getting hurt
Gus held a touch footy gala day at Penrith Park and 1000s turned up. This wasnt about winning it was about having fun
Pathways is one thing but dont forget less than 100 players in ANY junior district club ever went on to play NRL
