Greg Bird faces Super League ban
August 4, 2009 - 9:59AM
Greg Bird faces a four-match ban after being charged with a reckless tackle while playing for Catalans Dragons in the English Super League.

Bird was put on report for a challenge on Celtic Crusaders prop Ryan O'Hara in the last minute of the Dragons' 34-0 win in Perpignan on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was charged with a grade C offence by the Rugby Football League's match review panel on Monday and will have his case heard by their disciplinary committee via a telephone link on Tuesday.

The former Cronulla Sharks player, who has also received a warning letter over a "leg drop tackle" on Celtic's Jordan James in the same match, was last month handed a minimum nine-month jail sentence for wounding his girlfriend but was released on bail pending an appeal.

His appeal against the conviction is due to be heard in Sydney on Wednesday and Bird is hoping to lead the Catalans in their re-arranged League match against Salford on Friday.

Who cares - we'd be reigning premiers.

Very possibly, Alan. Getting rid of Bird was the start of the rot.
Welcome to the worst season Cronulla has ever had. Why the worst? Well, in 67 and 69 we didn't expect much. This year we did and were dealt up a bag of shyt...............and it all started last year when the powers that be said `Bye, Bye, Birdie', we can win without ya!
Well, at least most of those decision makers are gone, but the fans are still wailing and gnashing their teeth.

Most?

I would say ALL are gone. There would have only been the two behind the big decisions, Zappia and Pierce. And that would be liken to Helen Keller racing F1 against Stevie Wonder.

It was rumoured the first time Buster was stood down, Rick Stuart fired a warning shot too zappia with a dead line to re-instate him.

But thats the beauty of a rumour isn't it............

Maybe he was covering up for crazy pissed girlfriend.

What woman especially a jealeous one calls their boyfriend flatmate

You can only say what you can say at the time, those of you who had him tried and convicted on newspaper reports should hang your heads in shame.

Unbelievable. Ive seen some tripe written by this sicko but that post is utter garbage. You are a twisted individual. Youve led this forum on a crusade for months now and have influenced opinion because you cant admitt that maybe Bird is guilty. Everyone thats disagreed with your opinion is hammered. What a gutless fool. You and your sad desciples were wrong. Do you get it?

Hey, stinkmerkin, where are you now?

Hey, stinkmerkin, where are you now?

Hs under a rock.

But hell, the way Birdy did it was the legal equivalent of a try in the dying seconds.

A la Geddes in round 26.

Birdy is home and hosed on these charges. Entirely innocent, accountable to absolutely no-one.

But hes facing some more.
