Why the admiration for hasler.
Any admiration is a knee jerk desperate call for help that hasler will not fix if he comes.
He is more of what we already have.
A dinosaur.

Yes, once upon a time he was a decent coach.
But Maguire, Henry and Hasler, these three have allowed the game, winning new tactics and strategies to pass them by.
FFS, Hasler scraped into the 8 last year, got smashed once they did play in the finals, and this year did LESS than frigging useless Mary. With a better roster.

Maguire treats players with a couldnt care less attitude.
Examples. Letting GI stay on the field and nearly crippling the guy, releasing very good players like Ben Teo and Walker to sign up over paid Sam Burgess.
Well that all worked didnt it.

And his win loss over the past 2 to 3 years is 35%.
Laughable.....

Forget these has beens.....Mary is no worse than any of those.

You want a coach who finished behind us ...because once upon a time they were ok?!
Well dont.....we need fresh face with new exciting ideas.....none of those damn dinosaurs whose teams ALL finished behind us.

Henry has done sfa of late.

Maguire and Hasler both become very unwelcomed at their clubs.

Who does that leave some one like Brennan and people said no more rookie coaches.

We don't make the 8 and we give Mary a two extension !!!

Personally I would 100% take Des or Madge .

We could have Madge as coach and Hasler as assistant, bet we'll still only be a fringe top side next year with the current crop of players in the 2,3,4&5 jumpers

I hope I'm wrong but I think we're stuck with Mary until at least the end of 2018

Totally agree BUT he is a rookie and plenty don't want that(I would because like Paul Green, JD has pedigree. Anyway, JD is rumoured to be in the running for the Titans).

All great coaches had one year as their first in charge.

Go back and check out first and second year coaching records of the great coaches, it shows a new coach can have great success if they have a strong background in coaching teams in other grades and competitions.

JD is prime.

Other than JD, if its not Bellamy, Greene, Creeping, Cleary or even Flano.... I couldn't give a damn.

If mary stays.....pray that Hunt and Graham lead us powerfully on field and call the shots.

Only four coaches in the history of the modern game have more finals wins than Hasler. Wayne Bennett. Jack Gibson. Craig Bellamy. Tim Sheens. These 4 are virtually the Immortals of coaching.

Hasler turned Manly from a basket case into a premiership powerhouse - with two premierships to boot. He then departed Manly within weeks of a premiership - no coach has ever left a club the same year they won a grand final with them

He then took the Bulldogs to 2 grand finals in 3 seasons - they had reached just 1 in the previous 13. Their second grand final contained a spine of Sam Perrett, Trent Hodkinson and Josh Reynolds. These blokes reached a grand final!

These are facts. He is objectively a great coach.

We know the Dragons are run like a suburban bowlo. They have no money, and rely on NRL handouts. We can't afford to sack McGregor and pay him out. However... we have shown that when the absolute top echelon of coaches are available (Bennett/Bellamy) that external third-party benefactors are willing to contribute cash to lure those people. I'm saying that Des Hasler fits this bill completely.

Wind back the clock to 2008. Nathan Brown may well have been extended for eternity. He was improving, they had injury and player excuses etc etc. Wayne Bennett was suddenly on the outer at Brisbane, they had suffered a poor 2007, there was managerial change and he was on the nose. Hell, people were saying the same things about him as they do about Hasler now! Past it! Boring palying style! Screwed the club! Despite winning a comp just a year or two prior. Several clubs actually turned him down - the Cowboys and Dogs among them. We brought him in and the rest ishistory.

The parallels are definitely there imo. f**k,James Graham could even be his Darius. Approach him today!

The reason the cowboys turned him down was Tallis was inside the cowboys club and told the club not to sign Bennett.....because tallis is a vengeful dick still smarting from being benched in his last game he played at the broncos

Haslers record over the past three years is no better than marys, bennett never sunk that low. Never.

Haslers style is more boring than marys, his communication skillls are cave man like, he has no plan B....same as mary.

It hasnt been a one year blip, its three years now....hasler is finished.

Boring, plain, simple strategies he employs is straight out if steve price and marys note book.

Doesn't matter as QLD have the far better players in the all important 1,6,7 & 9 positions. An interesting stat revealed this week....QLD used 27 players in this years series and of those players 21 still feature in the Finals series. NSW used 17 players and yet only 3 appear in this years 4 team Finals series. So in essence it doesn't matter who coaches NSW we are screwed until the right players are selected and some QLD LEGENDS retire!!
