Timmins and Gasnier cleared of serious damage
Mon Jun 07, 3:42pm (NSW)
Source: St.George-Illawarra Dragons
The St George Bank Dragons received good news today with injured stars Shaun Timmins and Mark Gasnier cleared of serious damage from the injuries sustained in the Cowboys match on Saturday night at WIN Stadium.

Both have undergone a serious of scans and tests over the past two days and neither trained today.

Timmins was withdrawn from Origin contention this morning and will not play this week because of a pinched nerve in his neck.

Gasnier has strained ankle ligaments and will miss a few weeks.

Captain Trent Barrett (hamstring) will have a fitness test on Wednesday to determine if he will play against the Panthers at Penrith Stadium on Friday night. Barrett has not played since the Dragons beat Penrith at WIN Stadium in round six.

John Carlaw (eyesocket injury) will also face a fitness test this week to determine his availability, while Nathan Blacklock (hamstring) is expected back against the Tigers on June 20 and Jason Ryles (foot) will be another few weeks.

Timmins to miss Dragons' clash with Panthers

Dragons pair Mark Gasnier and Shaun Timmins have been cleared of any serious injury following the side’s loss to North Queensland on Saturday night.

However, the Dragons advised New South Wales selectors this morning that Timmins would not be available for the second State of Origin match next week due to a pinched nerve in his neck.

The Origin I hero will miss the Dragons’ clash with Penrith this Friday night because of the injury, but is expected to return the following round.

Gasnier didn’t train today but is expected to play against the under-strength Panthers on Friday.

Captain Trent Barrett and centre John Carlaw both remain under a fitness cloud for Friday’s game and will undergo further tests throughout the week, with a final decision on the pair unlikely to be made until game day.

Meanwhile, Penrith’s depth will be tested in the match, with the side losing a host of players due to Origin duty on top of their already hefty injury toll.

Coach John Lang is likely to retain the halves combination of Daniel Russell and Amos Roberts for the game, although there is speculation that skipper Craig Gower could make an early return from a knee injury.

Penrith will be without injured pair Preston Campbell and Ryan Girdler and Trent Waterhouse, Ben Ross, Rhys Wesser, Luke Rooney and Luke Lewis will all be unavailable due to Origin duties.

faior dinkum, u still have Lance, Head, Creagh, Hornby, Simmonds, Poore, and most of your top line up.

All we've got is 6 forwards, with no halves to lead them, no backs to run off them and no back up.

Well I think we still deserve it, they may have lost to manly, but so did we and we looked worse doing it. You know we need underdog status in order to have a chance at winning a game.

Of the 6 Dragons mentioned, there aint a lot of experience there Big Mick, take out Thommo and you might just pass 100 games.
