It's laaaaaaazy journalism
PS- I just want to say that in the post you quoted, I wrote 'God Hates F.A.G.S' as a reference to the Westboro Baptists and the forum obviously automatically changes that words to androtops.
I'm sorry- are you saying that the issue I raised don't belong in this thread because the issue in this thread is 'christianity's persecution of gay people for millennia'?
What % of the preachers rant spent on homosexuality would consider to be "acceptable"?
As I said, Christianity’s attitude towards homosexuality is a legitimate conversation.
I’m just saying that the media treatment of this story is disingenuous
I am watching the video right now.
I am halfway through- there is definitely images that are references to homosexuality and Wilkerson (the preacher) makes clear references to homosexuality/SSM.
I am happy enough to concede that while Wilkerson’s eschatology is the main thrust of the clip, he (and the clip) does single out homosexuality disproportionately.
Folau is definitely thick
There are two issues here.
1. People are aiming their hatred at Folau and not his religion
2. This is not news.
Its not like the views of his religion, which he is sprouting, are new. They've been around for ages.
I doubt the ARU are all that upset either. Folau is reminding people that Union still exists in Australia.
I generally agree- although I do think Folau (like all of us) is personally culpable for what he says. Which is why it's important for people to accurately report on what he actually says and respond in a level-headed way.
Folau constantly harping on about keeps making it news.
I’m almost certain that he is baiting the ARU to sack him.
What would happen if an Anglo man said the same thing
Nah, I disagree.
I don't know what the media coverage has been like in Australia- but in NZ, it seems like there's been a new Folau-focussed story out every day for the last 5-6 weeks. The amount of stories generated greatly outweighs Folau's comments on social media.
Well, union's not that popular here, so just a coupla' stories over the last six months or so.
I’ve often wondered throughout this tsunami of indignation in NZ if anyone had dared risk asking good ol’ SBW what his beliefs are on homosexuality.
I guess that’s a stone best left unturned
Asking SBW that would constitute a witch hunt of religious intolerance against Muslims and Islam. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11788532
I've spent a couple of weeks in Sydney over the last month and it felt like pretty big news.
I guess it depends what page you turn to.
Israel's comments are big news, union isn't.
Good on him for being intellectually honest and highlighting one of the many problems with the ideology called Christianity.
I for one hope he is never silenced.
This journalist commented on Folau unfavourably.
So different rules for different faiths, apparently.
I’d say it’s more likely diffferent rules for different nationalities
