Wests Tigers have been notified that Robbie Farah will not be at the Club for the 2017 season.

Farah is set to be released from the final year of his playing contract to take up an opportunity elsewhere.

Farah has played 247 NRL games for Wests Tigers since his debut in 2003, was a Member of the 2005 Premiership winning team and is a Life Member of the Club.

Wests Tigers Members and fans will have the chance to farewell Farah at half time of Sunday’s game against the Canberra Raiders at Leichhardt Oval.

Farah said that he was very grateful for the ongoing support from Wests Tigers Members and fans and looked forward to saying farewell on Sunday.

“I’d like to thank Wests Tigers Members and fans for their support throughout my career, it’s been invaluable to me,” said Farah.

“No matter what happens in the future this Club will always be special to me, it’s been a part of my life for so long, I have so many fond memories and have made lifelong friends here.

“I’m looking forward to getting out onto Leichhardt Oval tomorrow at half time and saying goodbye to those who have supported me for my entire career,” he said. “While it will be tough to watch the team from afar next season I wish my teammates all the best for the future.

“Most importantly, I have always played for the fans and am forever indebted to them for the support that I have received from them,” he said.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe congratulated Farah on his career with the Club.

“On behalf of everyone at Wests Tigers I would like to thank Robbie for his long-term contribution to the Club,” said Pascoe. “Robbie has been a major part of this Club for such a long time and will always be remembered as a Wests Tigers legend.

“We’ve been working closely with Robbie and his manager to get to a position to where we could give him the farewell that he deserves and it’s great that we can finally do that,” he said. “Tomorrow is going to be an incredible day at Leichhardt Oval and Robbie’s farewell at half time will only add to the atmosphere.”

Nothing on where he's going on the Tigers forum, or Robbies Twitter.
Will probably be in the papers tomorrow.

Will be interesting to see how much of his salary we need to eat up - hopefully we get enough relief to keep ET and hopefully make a signing or two.

There was talk of Mortimer - perhaps Balin wont come back as well. Will see how this plays out. With all the bad blood over the Robbie cr@p over the last few months, the club would want to make an announcement about what they are doing with this money to justify it all pretty quickly I reckon.

Yeah, Mortimer or Cook (swapped for Farah) would do.

I would have liked to have taken Konrad Hurrell when he was available. Would have stiffened that left side. maybe push Naiqama to the wing.

Yeah but hes a big body - and today I was surprised by how fast he was for his size.

I mean honestly, he aint a world beater, but he would be better than we have.

I think we have the decent nucleus to something special, recruitment is just going to be about tinkering.

We have a spectacular fullback - a great half in Moses, potential (still....) in brooks, Woods and Grant. Im OK with how we are placed and thrilled to be playing for a finals spot tomorrow.

Lets hope they get in - a finals game woud be a great experience for this young team before they give it a real shake next year.

Happy this is now all over and both parties can move on. I wish him well.

Saw on the news tonight that Farah was at Kogarah to watch his friend Benji play his last game for St George, it would be good to see a West Tigers 'life member' in Benji at Leichhardt tomorrow to watch his mate and fellow West Tigers 'life member' play his last game as a West Tiger.

And yes very weird to see him another jersey.

This is good news. Benji and Robbie's careers haven't ended well at least for us. Robbie may have a good year or two left in him at another club.

They've both been great for us but I'm really glad that this drama is over.

TBH, I thought he had a good year or two left with us, clearly still one of the best players we had.

I locked eyes wth Robbie at half time and my read was that he seemed relieved he wasn't out in the middle with the other scrubs..

Robbie displayed more than a touch of theatre/showmanship with his farewell today. While he has been our greatest ever player, Im just glad he is gone now.

Wests Tigers to foot $750,000 of Robbie Farah's salary next year
Adam Pengilly
Published: September 4, 2016 - 9:48PM

Robbie Farah will be close to being the highest-paid player in the game next year after the Wests Tigers agreed to foot $750,000 of his salary in 2017.

After giving Farah little option but to leave the club he helped guide to a premiership in 2005, the Tigers will fork out a huge chunk of Farah's $950,000 contract for next year.

Topped up with what he stands to earn when he officially joins the Rabbitohs, Farah will rival the likes of Gold Coast's Jarryd Hayne in the NRL's most remunerated players after an end to his ugly fallout with coach Jason Taylor.

Farah stands to collect in the region of $1.2 million given the Rabbitohs' contribution, but is still privately gutted he will not see out his career as a one-club player.

South Sydney, who won their last four games after a horror mid-season run and have Farah's brother Eddie on their backroom staff as a physiotherapist, are expected to confirm his signature on a two-year deal in the coming days.

The State of Origin hooker was given a rousing farewell by the Leichhardt faithful at half-time during the Tigers' season-ending 52-10 caning by the high-flying Raiders on Sunday afternoon. Farah sat on the sun-drenched balcony of the Leichhardt scoreboard for more than an hour after full-time, drinking cans of beer.

Next to him the scoreboard read in large letters "YNWA 247", in reference to Farah's love of English Premier League giants Liverpool and the amount of games he had racked up for the Tigers.

The Tigers released Farah from the final 12 months of his four-year contract on Saturday night, but only after the 32-year-old and his manager Sam Ayoub had wrangled with the Tigers over a potential payout.

The joint-venture club eventually gave the nod to pay all bar $200,000 of Farah's deal for next season, but only after weeks of negotiating.

Chants of "Robbie, Robbie, Robbie" bellowed down from the Wayne Pearce Hill as Farah completed a lap of the ground with his Tigers teammates, who were still stunned after a first-half onslaught from Canberra.

"It's obviously a bittersweet day, but the support's amazing," Farah told Fox Sports. "I've had enormous support throughout my career. I love these fans. Every time I've run out here I've played with them on my mind and given 100 per cent for the jersey.

"This is a goodbye today, but I'm sure I'll be back at this club in some some sort of capacity in the future. I'm a Tiger for life. It hasn't ended the way I'd liked, but I'll remember all the good times."

Farah's deal was heavily back-ended after he sacrificed more money to stay at the Tigers in a bid to become a one-club player, which always looked unlikely due to his clash with Taylor.

South Sydney owner Russell Crowe personally contacted Farah to lure him to the club.

It is understood a number of Rabbitohs players have expressed their delight to Farah that he will be at Redfern for pre-season training in November.

Farah was axed from the Tigers NRL side in July and received a huge number of well wishes for his first game in the Intrust Super Premiership at Leichhardt shortly after.

He could form a dangerous tandem with Rabbitohs rake Damien Cook, who had assumed the primary hooking role under Michael Maguire at the back end of the season.

If the reported payout is true, what have they gained? What quality can you buy for $200k. Farah's book should make fascinating reading.

What a waste. This is one of the dumbest decisions of all time. All to let JT get his way.
